Teacher Appreciation Week: Celebrating IMSA's Incredible Faculty!

During Teacher Appreciation Week, we wanted to take some time to celebrate the extraordinary educators at the IMSA! Recently voted the #1 Best Public High School Teachers in Illinois by Niche, our faculty go above and beyond every day to inspire curiosity, ignite passion, and empower students to reach their full potential. Meet just a few of our award-winning faculty members:

Mr. Evan Brummet, Math Faculty, was honored with the University of Chicago’s Outstanding Educator Award. This recognition honors educators who go above and beyond to make a lasting impact on their students' lives. What makes this honor truly special is that recipients are nominated by their former students who have gone on to attend the University of Chicago.

Dr. Janice Krouse, Math Faculty was named a state finalist for the 2025 Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST), the nation’s highest honor for K–12 STEM educators. This prestigious recognition highlights her exceptional teaching, deep content knowledge, and lasting impact on student success.

Dr. Anita White, Dean of Student Support and Equity, won the Outstanding Leader in Experiential Education: K-12 Award at the Society for Experiential Education Conference. She was recognized for her leadership in organizing the Summer Research and Experiential Learning Program (SRELO), which allows students to participate in summer research opportunities throughout the state.

The Illinois State Board of Education recognized Dr. Ashwin Mohan, Computer Science Faculty, with the Award of Excellence Early Career Educator for his work with the AI education at IMSA. This award recognizes exceptional educators who demonstrate innovation, dedication to student growth, and a strong, positive impact on their school communities.

Titan Tips and Tricks

Did you know IMSA has dedicated time built into the daily schedule just for student support and collaboration?

It’s called the Support and Engagement Period, or “S&E," and it takes place from 1:55 p.m. to 2:55 p.m. on all regular mod schedule days. This period is designed to give students the flexibility to seek extra help from teachers during office hours, meet with peer tutors, collaborate on group projects, or get a head start on homework. On select days, students can also take part in club meetings, workshops, or even join a fitness class. S&E is one more way IMSA tries to help students thrive as they balance new academic challenges and extracurricular opportunities away from home.

Trailblazing Titans

Dr. Peter Dong, Science Faculty, took seven students from his Student Inquiry and Research (SIR) cohort to present at the American Physical Society Global Physics Summit in Anaheim, California, the world’s largest professional physics conference.

Max Chen '25 delivered a talk titled “Search for a Doubly Charged Higgs Decaying to Muons or Electrons at CMS,” while Jayram Palamadai '25 presented his research on “Search for Dark Photons Decaying to Lepton Jets at CMS.” Seniors Shrikar Dulam, Cameron Eddington, Maya Kannan, Anwita Kasturi, and Robert Mandell also showcased their particle physics research through poster presentations on related topics.

This opportunity enabled IMSA students to connect with professionals in the field of physics, providing exposure to advanced concepts, valuable networking opportunities, and a chance to showcase their expertise.

IMSA eSports Dominates!

The eSports Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Team crushed the competition this year, going undefeated all season and capturing three major titles: the IHSEA State Championship, State Sectionals, and the prestigious IHSA State Championship! Congratulations to these champions for an incredible run and for bringing home the win for IMSA!
