Let Titan Odyssey be your compass as you chart your course toward new horizons and boundless possibilities at IMSA!

Residence Life at IMSA

At IMSA, we believe that meaningful learning happens beyond textbooks and lectures. That’s why we have dedicated staff and student leaders who work to build a strong sense of belonging, independence, and community. From educational programs and off-campus trips to relaxing wing nights and spontaneous fun, Residence Life is an essential part of your journey. Here, your personal growth and connections outside of the classroom are just as important as what happens inside it.

Feeling at Home at IMSA Starts In Your Room!

We want every student to have a space that feels comfortable and reflects their unique personality. Each student room comes equipped with standard furniture: two beds, two desks, and two wardrobes. Students are encouraged to arrange and decorate their space to make it their own, as long as they follow all fire and safety guidelines.

This summer, as you start planning for your move to campus, here are some items that can help make your room feel more like home:

  • A comfortable desk chair
  • Desk lamps (there's very little overhead lighting in the room)
  • Posters, photos, and other personal decorations
  • Extra storage (plastic drawers or totes work well!)
  • Twin XL bedding
  • A shower curtain and bathroom organizers
  • Cleaning supplies (yes, we do check that you're keeping your room clean!)

Creating a space that’s both functional and personal makes a big difference in your day-to-day life at IMSA! Here's an example of a typical student room:

Titan Tips and Tricks

Adjusting to campus life can feel both exciting and overwhelming. To help with the transition, each residence hall is supported by student leaders dedicated to building a strong sense of community. These leaders are known as Resident Student Leaders, or RSLs.

RSLs are upperclassmen who have completed a competitive application process and demonstrated a commitment to leadership. They serve as role models, answer questions, plan fun and meaningful programs, and help create a welcoming environment in the halls. RSLs also act as a bridge between students and the Resident Counselors (RCs), ensuring students’ voices are heard and their needs are supported.

Your RSLs will be among the first people you meet on move-in day. They'll help you get settled, introduce you to your new home, and make sure you're ready to connect with your classmates. They’re a valuable resource throughout the year, and we encourage students to reach out to them with any questions or concerns.

Students enjoy a wing dinner together in the wing commons.

Who's That Titan?

Each wing on campus is supported by a dedicated adult staff member known as a Resident Counselor, or RC. Your RC is there to support you, help build community, and ensure your residential experience is safe, inclusive, and engaging.

In addition to RCs, IMSA also has Area Coordinators (ACs). These adult staff members also live on campus, supporting the RC staff and serving as administrators on call for emergencies. ACs work closely with RCs to foster a positive and supportive residential environment across campus. Meet two of our ACs below.

Carl Mackey

Area Coordinator

Carl Mackey joined IMSA in 2024 and currently lives in 1503. He holds a B.S. in Computer Science and Sociology (Magna Cum Laude) from Northeastern Illinois University, a B.F.A. in Fashion Design from the Illinois Institute of Art - Chicago, and an M.S.Ed. in Higher Education Management from the University of Pennsylvania. Carl also served as the Assistant Boys Volleyball Coach during the 2025 season.

A lifelong learner and creative thinker, Carl is an avid fan of horror and sci-fi films and enjoys puzzles and games of all kinds. He has studied Japanese, German, Spanish, and French, and continues to work on achieving fluency.

Stephanie Broy

Area Coordinator

Stephanie Broy brings a wealth of experience in education and social work to her role as an Area Coordinator. A former RC in 1506, she is passionate about supporting the RCs in fostering student engagement and well-being. Stephanie has contributed to various student programs and collaborates closely with the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion to promote an inclusive environment.

Originally from Miami, with Colombian and Brazilian roots, Stephanie infuses her work with vibrant cultural energy. She enjoys dancing, movies, gaming on her Nintendo Switch, and attending concerts.

Stephanie especially values connecting with students through activities like Res Life Field Day, wellness events, and cultural events. She values the opportunity to build strong connections and support the well-being and growth of the IMSA community.

Trailblazing Titans

IMSA Alumna is Headed to Space!

Dr. Gretchen Green from IMSA's Class of 1992 is headed to space as part of Blue Origin’s NS-32 mission!

As a radiologist, educator, and entrepreneur, Dr. Green has spent her life exploring, from attending Space Camp in 1986 to biking across the U.S. at 16 to fight hunger. After graduating from IMSA, Dr. Green trained at Harvard, Yale, and Brown. We wish her the best of luck on the upcoming mission!

Turning Leadership into Action

Carissa Chen '25, Shreshta Ghanta '26, and Mahima Krishnan '26 attended IMSA's Board of Trustees meeting to introduce a proposed Sustainability Policy for IMSA. This student-driven initiative aims to build a campus culture that promotes responsible environmental practices, fosters climate awareness, and equips students, faculty, and staff with the tools to become sustainability leaders in their communities and beyond.

These students not only embody IMSA’s mission to advance the human condition, but also demonstrate leadership and initiative by actively shaping their residential environment and advocating for the needs of their peers.
