All sophomores will participate in ongoing programs to help them adjust to life at IMSA during their first semester on campus. The counseling team hosts these Sophomore Seminars, which cover topics like academic support, forming healthy friendships, personal wellness, and social media safety. Sophomores will be able to meet new peers and learn about different campus supports that can help them throughout their three years at IMSA.

The EXCEL 2024 students have been busy this summer! They jumped right into their math, science, and English classes on Monday, July 8. Students have been able to attend help sessions with faculty and meet upperclassmen serving as EXCEL tutors. They have also participated in workshops to learn more about maintaining healthy mental and physical behaviors with the busy schedule of an IMSA student.
Students also got to know each other at an ice cream social and started their service hours with a trip to Feed My Starving Children. On Sunday, they competed in a campus-wide scavenger hunt to familiarize themselves with campus spaces and participated in programming with some of our Residence Life team.
The students are working very hard and forming great friendships.

Shashikiran Salavath '25, a rising senior, recently returned from Malaga, Spain, where he presented at the 24th International Conference on Computational Science (ICCS). Shashi showcased his SIR Project, "CARENET–A Clinical Analysis and Reporting Enhancement Network," making him the youngest presenter in the conference's history.
CARENET incorporates cutting-edge elements of modern computing, like finely tuned large language models, semantic analysis, and HIPAA-compliant discrete-time data processing techniques. His research offers a new way to improve clinical decision-making and provides useful insights to help with proactive patient care.
Regarding his experience, Shashi stated,
"The knowledge and connections gained from ICCS 2024 will undoubtedly have a lasting impact on my research and reach. I am eager to apply what I have learned to CARENET's continued development and collaborate with the amazing individuals I met during the conference. It still amazes me the opportunities pursuing research has given me, notably allowing me to engage in China and now Spain."
Shashi will continue his research and development of CARENET through IMSA's SIR program this year.
