Ms. Amy Keck recently completed her 10th school year at IMSA, where she serves as the Learning Strategies Coordinator. She is a resource for incoming sophomores as they navigate the academic environment at IMSA. Some of her responsibilities include organizing study sessions, connecting students with educational resources, and overseeing the peer tutor program.
Ms. Keck grew up in DeKalb and proudly graduated as a DeKalb High School Barb. She resides in Batavia with her husband, daughter, and cat, Obi. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Social Work from Southern Illinois University and a Master of Management in Higher Education Administration from Robert Morris University. Ms. Keck's office can be found in the Writing Center in A109.
Her advice to incoming sophomores:
-
Try new things! Check out activities, clubs, and/or sports that seem interesting. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
-
Teachers want you to visit them during office hours! Go early in the semester to practice and build your confidence.
-
Maximize I Days! Get homework done during the day to have more downtime in the evenings.

All IMSA students are assigned to a College and Academic Counselor (CAC) when they arrive on campus. CACs help students choose class schedules, connect them with academic resources, and guide students through the college selection process. Students work with the same CAC throughout their three years at IMSA, allowing the CACs to get to know their students and better understand their long-term academic goals. Meet some of our CAC team below! | |
Hailing from Aurora, Illinois, Mr. JaRod Tobler has dedicated over a decade to IMSA. He started at IMSA as a Resident Counselor, served as an Admissions Counselor, and then progressed to College and Academic Counselor. He also serves as the girls' basketball coach and track coach. His experience working with all parts of the IMSA experience gives him a unique perspective and understanding as he supports his students.
A world traveler and Illinois State University graduate, Mr. Tobler empowers students to find their voice, reminding them that they shape the school, not vice versa, and that every experience is a potential story and learning opportunity.
