The Impact of IMSA Alumni
By Dr. Evan Glazer, President
| |
One sign of IMSA's success is demonstrated by the achievements of its alumni. Without question, IMSA students go on to careers that have meaningful contributions to the economy and welfare of people around Illinois, the country, and the world. Check out this fact sheet to learn about our alumni's success stories and contributions.
The second side of the fact sheet features Jessica Droste Yagan ‘95, CEO of Impact Engine, who received the IMSA Trailblazer Award just last Friday. The Alumni Awards Ceremony also honored Dr. Sarah Goeking ’92, National Manager of the U.S. Forest Service’s Forest Inventory and Analysis program, who received the Distinguished Leadership Award, and Brian Cudiamat ‘96, longtime president of the Illinois Alumni Association, who was honored with the Titan Award for his service to IMSA.
We find it valuable to not only recognize alumni for their achievements but also invite them back to IMSA to share their stories about how IMSA inspired a foundation for their passions, dedication, and problem-solving skills in their careers. We want our students to understand they are truly capable of advancing the human condition.

Triston's Tips and Tricks

Fall Break is a good time to practice self-care and reenergize during this time off. There are many benefits to someone’s overall well-being by practicing self-care regularly. These benefits include:
-
Improved mental and emotional well-being – Practicing self-care can reduce feelings of anxiety and depression. Self-care provides an opportunity to relax, recharge, and partake in something that you enjoy.
-
Improved productivity and focus – Taking care of yourself allows you to come back to what you were doing with improved clarity and concentration. You will have more energy to tackle your daily tasks.
-
Improved social relationships – When you care for yourself, you have more emotional resources to invest in other relationships. You will be able to preserve and protect your own social battery.
-
Improved self-esteem – By doing things that make you feel good and enjoy, it will lead you to feel better about yourself. It also sends a message to yourself that you matter and caring for yourself is important.
Take this opportunity to practice some of your favorite methods of self-care during Fall Break!

Cold and flu cases increase during fall and winter, and the CDC recommends flu and COVID-19 vaccines for everyone aged six months and older. The IMSA Health Office encourages students and staff to get vaccinated to protect themselves and others. Students should bring basic care items, while parents must provide additional self-care supplies; limited over-the-counter medications are available with parental consent.
If you are sending your student back with prescription medication refills, please complete the medication receipt form and turn it in with the refill. If your student goes home frequently, please remember to keep a supply of medications at home.

Last weekend, Raj Patel '26 presented his research project, "Assessing GPT Zero's Accuracy in Identifying AI vs. Human-Written Essays," at the ISAAPT/WAPT conference held at the Puri School of Business at Rockford University. This research assesses how accurate the AI model, GPT Zero is at determining whether written content is created by humans or generated through artificial intelligence. Raj spent the summer researching this topic and delivered his findings to an audience of professors and fellow researchers who provided insight into further research through thoughtful questions and discussion points.
Raj's research is being recognized by Rockford University, and he hopes to further explore the field of AI, with the possibility of publishing his findings in the future. Congratulations, Raj!

Congratulations to Mr. Evan Brummet, a member of IMSA's math faculty, for being honored with the University of Chicago’s Outstanding Educator Award! This recognition honors educators who go above and beyond to make a lasting impact on their students' lives. What makes this honor truly special is that recipients are nominated by their former students who have gone on to attend the University of Chicago.
Thank you for being an IMSA Impact Maker, Mr. Brummet!
