If your student has medication in the Health Office, please let the office know if you need a supply of their prescription medication(s) for the upcoming break. Failure to notify the health office may result in your student not having enough medication to last the entire break. You can reach the health office at nurse@imsa.edu.
Parents/guardians should pick up medication(s) from the Health Office before 3:00 p.m. or in the Hall RC office after 3:00 p.m. Students riding the downstate bus will be given their medications as they board the bus. Please return all medication bottles that are sent home, as we reuse them to send medication to the halls on nights and weekends.
When sending refills back to campus, please complete the medication receipt form and turn it in with the refill. If your student goes home frequently, please remember to keep a supply of medications at home.

Unobservable Consequences
One of IMSA's beliefs is that all people have choices and are responsible for their actions. The disparaging remarks made on the January 28 student survey were harmful and unacceptable. We are committed to addressing the misconduct and concerns expressed, and doing so will require investigation and ongoing community engagement.
People who have been harmed deserve to see accountability, however, these consequences may not be observable. I think this frustrates members of our community, especially those who have been impacted by someone else's behavior. If the alleged offender is still around, then one might conclude that a complaint has not been taken seriously. We have Board policies that outline the consequences that students and IMSA professionals may face for inappropriate conduct. Discipline is intended to change the behavior of the responsible party and create a safer environment for the person impacted. If the behavior repeats, then the consequences escalate. However, these consequences are not reported back to the impacted party because of our legal responsibility to maintain confidentiality in student and personnel records.
I have to acknowledge this approach does not offer full transparency because impacted individuals want to bear witness to outcomes firsthand like the criminal justice system. However, that’s not possible because we are working with minors, as well as professionals who have rights to confidentiality. We rely on credible evidence in order to take action, so we need community members to report what they see and hear. And, those people who have been reported have a right to due process and to offer their perspective. While reporters may not know the action taken, please know your concerns are investigated and taken seriously for the welfare and education of our community.

Improving Social Skills
Sometimes, our stress can come from other areas of our lives outside of academics, such as social situations. It can be nerve-wracking being around new people or even being around people you know. Working on social skills can help you feel more confident when you're around others. Here are some tips to help you improve your social skills:
-
Active listening - The first part of any social interaction is listening. To show you are listening, you can ask clarifying questions or display body language, such as a nod.
-
Good eye contact - Eye contact will show that you are interested in the conversation and what they have to say.
-
Asking open-ended questions - When you ask questions that are more than a yes or no answer, it shows that you're interested and encourages deeper conversation.
-
Initiating conversation - Do not be afraid to start conversations with people. The only way you will get better is to try. Conversations can be as simple as a small compliment or a question about something.
