Dr. Michael Keyton, a mathematician, musicologist, and professional golfer, made a lasting impact during his time as a member of the math faculty at IMSA. Through his wisdom, kindness, and passion for teaching, he helped inspire his students to believe in themselves and in what they could accomplish. Each year, a scholarship is awarded to honor his legacy by supporting future generations of students.

This year, the scholarship will award $800 to an IMSA senior pursuing an education or career in mathematics (a math minor is also eligible). Ideal candidates include students planning to become math teachers and those with financial need (not required). Applicants must be enrolling in an accredited college or university after graduation.

Message from the President

Celebrating School Spirit

Most people know that IMSA is a unique place for learning through advanced coursework, specialized curriculum and access to experienced research and tech professionals. Family members often don't get to see the culture because many live far away. You rely on the Titan Tuesday and other communications to get a sense about what's happening and how we are supporting the growth and interests of your students.

A group of students in blue shirts sit on bleachers smiling and holding up signs supporting their classmates
A group of students in yellow t shirts throw a classmate into the air in a cheerleading stunt while students on the bleachers cheer them on
Students in multi colored shirts stand in a circle while a crowd of students on the bleachers cheer them one
A group of students in blue t shirts form a human pyramid in a gym while students on the bleachers cheer them on

Having fun through connection is important to IMSA's culture. Clash of the Halls was a big experience this past week where students engaged in friendly competition. Each of the halls have representatives or groups competing against each other, and members of the staff serve as judges. There were competitions for art, trivia, movie, dance, relays, cheer and more. During the Spring Break, be sure to ask your students about Clash, how they were involved, and what the experience meant to them. It's a unique part of our culture that brings together each hall community, and in the spirit of celebrating the IMSA community.

Good News

Girls IN2 STEM Empowers the Next Generation

On March 22, the Girls IN2 STEM team hosted a MedTech workshop for 50 middle school students, introducing them to hands-on STEM experiences at the intersection of medicine and technology. Students learned about networking skills, made their own oobleck, extracted DNA from strawberries, and tested their reaction times using ruler-drop experiments. The session concluded with a catapult-building challenge, where students used physics in a fun, competitive setting!

This event is part of Girls IN2 STEM’s ongoing mission to empower young girls to explore and pursue opportunities in STEM fields.

The Girls IN2 STEM board would like to thank all of the volunteers and IN2 for making this event possible.

Titan Robotics Models Sustainability and Leadership

Over the past two weeks, IMSA’s FRC team, Titan Robotics, competed at the Central Illinois Regional and the Midwest Regional.

After overcoming technical and mechanical challenges, the team made significant progress, supporting other robots and winning several matches. Titan Robotics also earned the Team Sustainability Award, recognizing their commitment to sustainable practices, effective resource management, team continuity, and reduced environmental impact.

Olivia Pan '27 was also named a FIRST Leadership Award Finalist. As one of only four students in Illinois to receive this honor, she was recognized for her exceptional leadership, embodiment of FIRST’s core values, and contributions to her team and community.

Congratulations to Titan Robotics for demonstrating not only technical excellence and perseverance, but also a strong commitment to sustainability and ethical leadership!

Internship Spotlight

Three students stand on a walkway in front of a large historic building with a domed roof. All three are dressed in professional attire—two in dark suits and one in a black outfit with a red top—posing together outdoors under a cloudy sky.

A group of IMSA interns spent the year working with Representative Maura Hirschauer’s Office. Claire Wen '26, Mandy Litowitz '27 and Lucas He '27 concluded their internship with a visit to Springfield to experience what happens in our Capital to keep the State of Illinois running efficiently. During this experience, they had the opportunity to explore many different areas, including:

  • Constituent Services / Casework
  • Policy Research & Development
  • Business & Organizational Collaboration
  • Digital Media Design & Marketing
  • Education / Outreach
  • Group Facilitator
  • Community Liaison
  • Community Event Planning
  • Volunteer Coordination

Thank you to Representative Hirschauer, Kat, and the whole team for this incredible opportunity.
