| | Michael Keyton Scholarship for Mathematics | | |
Dr. Michael Keyton, a mathematician, musicologist, and professional golfer, made a lasting impact during his time as a member of the math faculty at IMSA. Through his wisdom, kindness, and passion for teaching, he helped inspire his students to believe in themselves and in what they could accomplish. Each year, a scholarship is awarded to honor his legacy by supporting future generations of students.
This year, the scholarship will award $800 to an IMSA senior pursuing an education or career in mathematics (a math minor is also eligible). Ideal candidates include students planning to become math teachers and those with financial need (not required). Applicants must be enrolling in an accredited college or university after graduation.
The deadline to apply is Friday, April 24, 2026.

| Finding Time for Recreation | | |
IMSA is a big academic commitment with challenging courses and meaningful projects. Students take breaks from their academics and extracurriculars, and engage in numerous activites during their free time. On weekends, many students travel home to be with their families. However, there are plenty who live too far away. I want those students to have meaningful experiences while they stay on campus, and I appreciate the efforts made by our residential life team to make that possible.
I plan to venture out on Sunday, May 3, to Starved Rock State Park for a hike. If you haven't been there, it's a beautiful hike with great scenery, fascinating rock formations, and plenty of fresh air. It's a chance to get away and enjoy nature with friends. I can take up to 14 students and will provide ice cream at the end of the 5-mile hike.
Sign up by April 29, 2026.

Parent Support Needed
Casa de Alma
| | |
Alma Latina, IMSA’s Hispanic and Latin American cultural club, celebrates their heritage through events like our yearly show, Casa de Alma, which strives to erase misconceptions and uplift the community. This year's themed show is Casa Del Barrio. The student show takes place on April 24 from 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., with the dinner reception to follow in the cafeteria, and the family show is on Saturday, April 25, at 2:30 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
The student reception dinners after the shows are a time to celebrate the culture's cuisine and connect with fellow students. Alma is looking for parent volunteers as well as food and monetary donations to help make this year’s Casa Del Barrio reception a celebration of the Hispanic and Latin cultures. Please consider helping by donating your food, time, or funds for the student reception.

| | Summer Coursework in Mathematics | | |
As summer approaches, some students may choose to use the break to take an additional math course. While this is not expected, it may be an option for those interested in exploring topics not offered at IMSA or accelerating their progress through the IMSA mathematics core (Geometry, Mathematical Investigations, and Calculus).
Any math course taken over the summer for the intention of potentially advancing through the IMSA mathematics core must be pre-approved by the IMSA mathematics department. Please read the letter linked below, which contains a link to the Summer Mathematics Course Request Form. This form, which requires a syllabus of the course for which you seek approval, is due no later than Friday, May 1, 2026 @ 11:59 p.m.
Also included is a list of Topics in Core Courses for mathematics, which may help guide your selection of non-IMSA summer courses.
