Spotlights and Good News

Good News

Girls Golf

The Girls Golf Team continued their inaugural season with steady progress, first posting improved scores across the lineup against Nazareth Academy, then earning a breakthrough win over Somonauk.

Against Nazareth, every Titan bettered her score from the team’s historic debut, led by Teah Oviedo '26 (51) and supported by Maggie Federici '28 (53), Avery Frank '27 (57), Hanna Dydynski '27 (59), and Ashlyn Gupta '27 (64).

That momentum carried into the Somonauk match, where IMSA secured four of the top five individual scores for its first-ever conference victory. Oviato again led the Titans with a 59, followed by Frank (60), Dydynski (65), Smith (65), Gupta (69), and Federici (70).

Boys Golf

The Titan Boys Golf Team opened its season with a historic performance, defeating Little Ten Conference rival Somonauk 170-182. The Titans’ score of 170 was the program’s lowest in 13 years!

Cyrus Dumser '28 led all golfers with a 37 (+1), followed by Cooper Lee '27 (43), Kennedy Su '26 (44), and Aidan Chang '27 (46). Joven Chinna '27 and Andrew Bae '26 also contributed to this record-breaking victory.

Staff Spotlight

Courtney Caruthers

Area Coordinator

IMSA is excited to welcome Ms. Courtney Caruthers to the Student Affairs team as our newest Area Coordinator. In this role, she supports the Residence Life Department by supervising Resident Counselors, helping ensure daily operations run smoothly, and responding to crises or emergencies after hours.

Ms. Caruthers earned her BA in Communication Studies with a Minor in Behavioral and Political Science. Before joining IMSA, she taught Science at Chicago Bulls College Prep.

When asked to share her favorite piece of advice, she offered this wisdom: “Ctrl-Alt-Delete; control yourself, alter your thinking, and delete negativity.”

Message from the President

Managing Your Success at IMSA

Many students who come to IMSA have found their prior academic experience manageable. They've come to IMSA for a new opportunity and a new challenge. About this time of year, some students begin to feel that they have bitten off more than they can chew. Some courses might be too hard, or they have overcommitted to their activities. That's normal. What students do about it can vary considerably. Some don't realize there's a problem, some don't want to confront it, some turn to their friends, and some seek help from staff.

Please know there is a wide variety of support services at IMSA to help students: counseling, tutoring, accommodations, etc. As a parent, I know it's sometimes difficult to coach a student to confront their challenges and find the help they need. Do we want to clear the path for them? Do we want them to learn the hard way? Ideally, we want them to feel equipped to find support independently without our help. For some students, this takes time. So, don't hesitate to reach out to your student's RC, CAC, and others on our support team for guidance. It will serve them better in the long run as young adults if they learn to advocate and locate the help that will serve them.

Girls IN2 STEM Fall Cohort

September 22 - October 27

The Girls IN2 STEM Program is a 5-week cohort designed to empower middle school girls to reach their fullest potential in education and the workplace. By pairing middle school students with high school mentors and introducing them to diverse STEM fields, the program helps participants explore their interests while gaining valuable skills for future success.

Each cohort includes one to two middle school students (mentees) and two IMSA student mentors who share similar STEM interests. Together, they engage in a curriculum that blends remote sessions with on-campus experiences at IMSA.

Through the program, students discover new STEM fields, build meaningful connections with peers and mentors, learn more about IMSA, and design a project that reflects their growing interests and passions.

Applications for mentors and mentees are now open. All applications are due on September 12, 2025.
