Student Spotlight

Aarav Shah '26 and Harish Chandar '26 are driving the continued development of the Learning Enrichment Engine, a platform designed to promote free learning opportunities for K-12 students across Illinois. Through a collaboration between the Illinois Association for Gifted Children and the IMSA, the Learning Enrichment Engine connects students and parents with enriching events and experiences around the state. Parents, educators, and event organizers can support the mission by submitting an event to the searchable list of learning experiences.

Aarav and Harish are not only driving innovation through their continued improvement and development of the site, but they are also helping students access enriching educational experiences across the state!

Message from the President

Making IMSA Accessible in New Ways

Our strategic intention is to make IMSA sustainable and accessible, to Elevate IMSA Everywhere, as described in our Vision 2033 plans. However, we're not waiting until 2033 to have an impact. This infographic explains some changes from the past two years that have benefited IMSA students today.

Just last week, we ran a Board meeting in Edwardsville, thanks to the partnership we have with SIUE and area schools in the MetroEast region of the state. Dawn Waller, our Hub manager, shared a presentation about different outreach, professional development, and research opportunities we are making available to IMSA students and scholars so they may experience IMSA downstate. During that visit, it was also nice to learn from IMSA alumni who currently attend SIUE.

We also have Hub services in Chicago and Carbondale. Our desire is to expand services to new regions where there are gaps in enrichment services. Please don't hesitate to reach out to me at eglazer@imsa.edu if you have ideas on how we can partner with education institutions in your region to make IMSA more accessible, whether that's through outreach, professional development or research.

Self-Care for Student Success

Making time for self care giphy image

Student Health Services has noticed a concerning trend among our students. The majority of the students visiting the office are exhibiting physical symptoms, including weakness, headaches, dizziness, a runny nose, and a sore throat.

In addition to the typical “back-to-school illnesses” that many are facing, we are seeing declining self-care habits such as inconsistent sleep, unbalanced nutrition, inadequate hydration, and irregular exercise based on what the students have shared. In the classroom, teachers have noticed an increase in fatigue and poor concentration. Some students have even reported overconsumption of caffeine.

Such consumption can negatively affect students' sleep, functionality throughout the school day, as well as increase anxiety. Neglecting vital, daily routines can have a significant impact on overall health, academic performance, and emotional well-being.

Here’s the GOOD NEWS…small, intentional changes can make a BIG difference! Learn more about the Health Office's recommendations for connecting with students and promoting their self-care.
