Note: MAT413 & MAT414 has replaced MAT411 & MAT412
| | |
Advanced Topics in Data Analysis
MAT418 (Fall) & MAT419 (Spring)
Length: 1 Semester
Love real data sets? This hands-on course introduces students to the R Statistical Language and focuses on applied data analysis, modeling, and visualization through inquiry-driven projects across math, science, and the social sciences.
Who should take it?
Students interested in data science, statistics, programming, or interdisciplinary research.
Prerequisites: Mathematical Investigations III, Methods in Scientific Inquiry, and Computer Science Inquiry (or equivalent)
| | You do not need to take Statistics to take Advanced Topics in Data Analysis. Talk with your math teacher, or stop by the Math Office and see Mr. Rummelhoff or Dr. Trainor to learn more! |

Congressional App Challenge
Congratulations to Pranav Gadde '27, Krithik Senthilkumar '27, Naga Mudda '27, and Pratayanch Sav '27 for winning the 2025 Congressional App Challenge in Illinois’ 8th District with their app CerebraX! Their project uses AI to help address disparities in brain cancer treatment for the deadliest type of brain cancer, Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM). Their hope is that this technology can help more people access sophisticated computational tools and comprehensive testing, which most local hospitals cannot afford.
The Congressional App Challenge is a nationwide competition created by the U.S. House of Representatives to encourage middle and high school students to learn coding and computer science by designing their own software applications. Top apps are featured on the House.gov website, displayed in the U.S. Capitol, and their creators are invited to the national #HouseOfCode celebration in Washington, D.C.
Learn more about the design process straight from the coders themselves in the video below!

Staff Spotlight
Food Service Worker Appreciation Week
| | Earlier this month, we celebrated our amazing food service staff, who keep our campus fed, healthy, and happy. Thank you for the warm smiles and care you bring to every meal. We’re so grateful for all that you do! | | IMSA's Latest Partnership | | |
IMSA creates partnerships with the intent to create access to opportunity for both IMSA students and IMSA scholars. Scholars are students who have short-term experiences with IMSA. I'm delighted to share the news about our new office at the University of Chicago, situated at the Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation and Hyde Park Labs. The opportunity allows us to create summer internships for IMSA students and run IMSA outreach programs for students who reside in Chicago.
The University of Chicago has provided mentors for IMSA's SIR program for many years. With this new partnership, we can expand the relationship for new summer opportunities, make connections with start-ups in the area, and continue to make IMSA more accessible to youth. If you are affiliated with the University of Chicago or support educational efforts in Chicago, please don't hesitate to reach out to IMSA Chicago Hub manager Frank Kadri (fkadri@imsa.edu)
