AAUW: Why Title IX Matters

Title IX has advanced gender equity in schools since 1972 but much work remains. AAUW's own research reveals that two-thirds of college students experience sexual harassment; girls have over a million fewer chances to play sports in high school than boys; girls do not have equal educational experiences or opportunities; representation in STEM programs is low; women athletics experience inequities; women professors are fighting tenure discrimination

The Gender Equity Education Act (GEEA) would provide resources; training and technology necessary to ensure equity in education and work; and establish an Office of Gender Equity in the Department of Education.

AAUW delivers Title IX resources to local schools and assists in finding Title IX coordinators. Read all of AAUW's resources and assistance programs.
Title IX
