2020 Delegate Elections
What Voters Need to Know
The election of Delegates to the Tribal Assembly will be held in each of Tlingit & Haida’s 21 registered communities in March 2020.

The number of Delegates has been determined to be 116 and is calculated based on the total number of tribal citizens registered to each community as of December 22, 2019 per Tlingit & Haida’s Rules of Election. One Delegate is allocated for every 200 enrolled tribal citizens per community.

For the upcoming elections, it’s important all tribal citizens are registered to the community they reside in or to a community of their choice if they do not live within a 100-mile radius of a registered community.

In order to vote in the Delegate Elections, individuals must be:
  • Enrolled with Tlingit & Haida by March 19, 2020
  • Eighteen (18) years of age or older by March 19, 2020
  • On the Official Voting List of a Registered Community

Important Dates:
  • Electronic Ballot Instructions: Mailed by February 18
  • Electronic Voting Period: February 19 – March 19
  • Ballot Deadline: Close of Business March 19

How to Run for a Delegate Seat
Are you interested in serving as a Tlingit & Haida Delegate? Elected Delegates are representatives of their community and are the governing body of Tlingit & Haida while Tribal Assembly is in session. Each Delegate will serve a two-year term and attend the annual Tribal Assembly (April 22-24, 2020) to legislate for and govern, conduct and manage the affairs and property of the Tribe. This year, Delegates will also participate in the election of Tlingit & Haida’s President, Vice Presidents, Chief Justice, Tribal Judge and Emerging Leader.

Tribal citizens interested in running for a Delegate seat must be 18 years or older and submit a Declaration of Intent to Serve form to their community’s local election official. If you would like to run for a Delegate seat, visit Tlingit & Haida’s Election webpage ( www.ccthita-nsn.gov/government/elections ) to find out when your community will hold a nominations meeting or have an open nomination period.

Solicitation for Tribal Assembly Theme
Tlingit & Haida is searching for a theme for the upcoming 85th Annual Tribal Assembly and we are looking to our tribal citizens for help!
 
If you have a suggested theme, consider submitting it for a chance to win $250! Past themes have reflected on sovereignty, our way of life, honoring our elders, empowering our youth, and unity (see list for past themes). The Executive Council will review all entries and select the winning theme by the end of January.

RFB Notice: Commissioned Logo for T&H Cultural Immersion Park
Tlingit & Haida is soliciting bids to design a custom logo for the Tlingit & Haida Cultural Immersion Park project. The cultural immersion park will be a cornerstone of Tlingit & Haida that will not only create cultural awareness where guests can be immersed in our living cultures , it will be a place where we can reach across generations to re connect with and celebrate our rich cultures together. Created with traditional formline, Tlingit & Haida envisions a logo that represents our effort to create cultural awareness, honor our ancestors and embrace the knowledge they have passed on to us, and nourish the ties we have to our traditional homelands.

If you have a vision for the Cultural Immersion Park logo, please submit a bid with your logo concept by January 22, 2020 .

The heart of this community-based project is guided by our Southeast Traditional Tribal Values and Tlingit & Haida’s Mission statement to “preserve our sovereignty, enhance our economic and cultural resources, and promote self-sufficiency and self-governance for our citizens.”

  • Artisan – must be an enrolled Tlingit & Haida citizen
  • Sample Art – must be in color and fully display the artwork and quality
  • Logo Design – must be created using traditional formline
  • Timeline – must be able to complete artwork within one (1) month from award 

Bid Deadline: January 22, 2020
Bids must be received or postmarked by the deadline to be eligible for consideration. All eligible bids will be submitted to Tlingit & Haida’s Executive Team for review and selection. Please Note: Quality of artisanship will factor largely on the bid award.

New Motherhood Is Sacred™ Sessions
Dates: Mondays (Jan. 6 - Mar. 30, 2020)
Time: 5:00 PM - 7:30 PM

A new 12-week session of the Motherhood Is Sacred™ program has started. Sessions are held every Monday and are designed to strengthen families through guided discussions on responsible parenting and will explore topics on choice, wisdom, self-identity, and relationships.

Are you looking to maintain good grades or need some help studying? Tlingit & Haida’s Navigators program is ready to help you buckle down and get the most out of the school year! The Spring Study Group sessions begin on January 13th and are held every Monday & Wednesday. If you have a student that needs help studying, we have tutors available! Sessions are open to all tribal citizen students (6th-12th grade).

Tlingit & Haida and tribal partners are pleased to co-host the 2020 Native Issues Forum series held every other week during the legislative session. The forums will feature reports and presentations from legislators and other guests on a wide range of topics important to our Native community that address economic development, education, language, public safety, and much more.
