Tribal Emergency Operations Center Launches PSAs
|
Tlingit & Haida is committed to providing current information on the Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic to ensure all tribal citizens remain informed and have the resources needed to stay safe. In addition to providing regular updates on the COVID-19 with current statistics on the pandemic, prevention tips, news and links to resources, Tlingit & Haida’s Tribal Emergency Operations Center has launched PSAs airing on radio stations throughout Southeast Alaska. The PSAs provide safety and wellness tips and are also available on Tlingit & Haida's

with closed captioning for those who are hearing impaired.
It is imperative that our tribal citizens continue to follow federal, state, tribal and local health mandates. Parents are urged to keep children home, not schedule play dates, and avoid group gatherings in public areas.
The Tribal Emergency Operations Center (TEOC) was created to enable Tlingit & Haida to provide timely, integrated, and coordinated responses to the Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic that addresses the four phases of emergency management: mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery. The activation of the TEOC is not due to any identified cases within the Tribe. All actions are aimed at protecting the safety and well-being of Tlingit & Haida’s citizens, clients, employees and communities.

National Day of Awareness for Missing & Murdered Native Women and Girls
|
Today is the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Native Women and Girls. Isolation because of the Coronavirus doesn’t stop the need to raise awareness of a tragic fact that Alaska Native and American Indian women experience disproportionately high rates of homicide and other violent acts including domestic violence, sexual assault, and sex trafficking.
We encourage all tribal citizens to observe this day and dedicate it to learning, being a voice and bringing more awareness to this issue.
So, what can you do to help right now?
- Take five minutes of silence today to honor and remember our missing and murdered indigenous women and girls.
- Wear red or display a red dress outside of your home, office or place of work.
- Share your photos with the hashtags #MMNWG #NoMoreStolenSisters #MMIW #GoneButNotForgotten

Help Us Celebrate Our Graduates

It’s that time of year again – graduation time! In these unprecedented times, with our students having to graduate virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we want to make sure they are recognized and help celebrate their accomplishments!
Please help us celebrate our tribal citizens who are graduating from high school or higher education institutions this year by sharing a photo! Photos with student information will be posted in an album on Tlingit & Haida’s Facebook page. Let’s show our graduates how proud we are of their accomplishments and give them the recognition they deserve!

LEARN Child Care Center to Reopen
|
On May 11th, Tlingit & Haida's LEARN Child Care Center will reopen with 25% capacity and will continue to increase its operating capacity to 50% over the month of May or until the State of Alaska has lifted its mandate which limits group gatherings to no more than 10 for businesses.
Child care
is an essential service for working families and businesses
and with low community spread in Juneau, the decision to reopen was made with safety measures implemented.
A COVID-19 Mitigation Plan was developed for LEARN's re-opening and operation which includes daily health screenings of all children and staff, curbside pickup and dropoff to avoid parents in the building, and increased sanitation, handwashing and cleaning procedures.

Cultural Heritage & Education Class Survey
|
Tlingit & Haida's Cultural Heritage & Education department is conducting a survey to determine the interest level in potential classes and how to best structure and offer classes. The survey will run for four weeks and will include an option to enter a random drawing that will be held at the end of the survey period, as an incentive for respondents.

Strengthening Families Through Culture Virtual Class

The Sitka School District, Sitka Tribe of Alaska (STA) and Tlingit & Haida have teamed up to launch a Strengthening Families through Culture virtual culture class. The lessons are intended for the whole family and will explore legend and cultural books, arts, Lingit language, song and dance, traditional games, and plants and traditional harvest.

Navigators Virtual Study Group

Need help studying for Math or English? Tlingit & Haida’s Navigators program has setup a virtual Zoom room for their study group! Tutoring is available for tribal citizen students (6th-12th grade). For security purposes, students must contact Navigators to obtain a link and passcode.
