Tlingit & Haida to Hold Virtual 85th Annual Tribal Assembly
Over 100 Delegates from Southeast Alaska, Anchorage, Washington, California and beyond will gather virtually via Zoom on October 1, 2020 to legislate for and govern, conduct and manage the affairs and property of the Tribe at the 85th Annual Tribal Assembly. Delegates serve a two-year term and are representatives of their community and the governing body of Tlingit & Haida while Tribal Assembly is in session.

As a result of the Coronavirus pandemic and to protect the health and safety of Delegates, tribal citizens, staff and communities, Tlingit & Haida’s Executive Council, under its constitutional authority, voted in March 2020 to postpone the 85th Annual Tribal Assembly which was scheduled to take place April 22-24, 2020 in Juneau, Alaska. The decision of the Executive Council was adopted through resolution EC 20-11, entitled “Postponement of 85th Annual Tribal Assembly.”

To prepare for the upcoming Tribal Assembly, swearing-in ceremonies with Delegates were conducted virtually and a Robert's Rules of Order training will be held on Tuesday, September 29, 2020.

The Tribal Assembly will be called to order at 8:00 AM on October 1, 2020 and livestreamed on Tlingit & Haida’s Facebook page. Delegates will hear reports covering the administrative, governmental and business activities of the Tribe and participate in the election of Tlingit & Haida's President, Vice Presidents, Chief Justice, Associate Justice, Delegate/Citizen of the Year, and Emerging Leader. 2020 Census - Be Counted!
A federal judge recently ruled that the 2020 Census will continue through October 31, 2020. In the time that remains, it is critical that we are all counted in the 2020 Census which determines funding levels for our communities’ schools, public safety, hospitals and housing. Our villages, communities, region and state are counting on you!
