Independent, Science-Based Evidence To Empower Canadians

Issue 2023 - Week 37       View this newsletter in your browser

Hello Sonya,

At the Canadian Covid Care Alliance we are dedicated to sharing evidence-based information to empower Canadians to remain safe.

Robust science requires open debate, dialogue, and reassessment.

In a recent CNN interview Dr. Fauci said: "if you look on the situation as an individual, protecting themselves or protecting them from spreading it, there's no doubt that masks work." What was the evidence on which this statement was based? What is the quality of the evidence used to support the use of various facial coverings as protection from aerosolized pathogens? In this week's issue we take a closer look at the evidence regarding the use of facial coverings to prevent SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Our Protect Pregnancy and Breastfeeding Campaign also highlights the importance basing medical recommendations on quality evidence and balancing the potential harms of therapeutic interventions.

Reproductive Health Needs to be Protected from Predatory Big Pharma Marketing Forces

For fall 2023, the National Advisory Committee for Immunization (NACI) is promoting COVID-19 genetic vaccine boosters for pregnant women. With this in mind, Dalinda Reese, MD (US, retired) provides an overview of the importance of the Protect Pregnancy and Breastfeeding campaign. Pregnant women are being targeted by marketing campaigns to use these and other therapeutic products. History teaches us the devastating outcomes from using medical interventions without proven safety records during the vulnerable periods of pregnancy and breastfeeding. The campaign aims to empower families with up to date information so they may make informed health care choices.

Cochrane Mask Controversy | Tom Jefferson, Carl Heneghan Interview | Will Evidence-based Medicine Survive?

Dr. Vinay Prasad interviewed experts in evidence-based medicine Dr. Tom Jefferson and Dr. Carl Heneghan about the importance of integrity and transparency in science and the influence of censorship and other external influences on scientific evaluations. They also discuss the reaction to the recent update of the Cochrane review of the efficacy of physical interventions to interrupt or reduce the spread of respiratory viruses for which Dr. Jefferson was lead author. Based on current evidence, the update concluded that: Wearing masks in the community probably makes little or no difference to the outcome of laboratory-confirmed influenza/SARS-CoV-2 infection compared to not wearing masks. Public policy should be based on quality current evidence rather than assumptions of what may be true.

Mask Efficacy & COVID-19 with

Stephen Petty, CIH

Mr. Stephen Petty has over 40 years experience as a certified industrial hygienist (CIH) with expertise in personal protective equipment and hazardous exposure control. In this interview, he provides an analysis of the mask efficacy research. He explains why facial coverings, including N95s, are not a valid technical solution for protection against respiratory viruses.

He also discusses how public messaging and policy have been shaped by behavioural psychology to persuade the public to use facial coverings even when it is nonsensical.

Mr. Petty has kindly provided the PDF of the handouts to which he refers in this interview, as well as his declaration for District Court in Ohio and a summary of his reference materials.

Mask Demonstration Video

The aerosols carrying SARS-CoV-2 are the same size or smaller than Vape aerosols. Dr. Ted Noel uses VAPE aerosols to demonstrate their leakage around commonly used facial coverings raising question of their effectiveness for SARS-CoV-2 aerosols.

Masks and Aerosols

Dr. John Hardie, DDS has written a review article about the use of masking as protection against aerosolized viruses like SARS-CoV-2. He points to the lack of robust evidence supporting their use and highlights their potential harms.

Ms. Megan Mansell has a background in hazardous environs PPE applications. She is experienced in writing and monitoring protocol implementation for immunocompromised public sector access under full ADA/OSHA/IDEA compliance. She has written a technical explanation of why N95s are not designed to stop the spread of SARS-CoV-2. Even with a complete seal and optimal 95% efficacy, there will still be enough viral leakage to cause illness in others.

They will be joined by opening speakers Drs Mark Trozzi and Byram Bridle.

"Fire and Ice" Featuring Rodney Palmer

Jaime Sale and Theo Fleury will interview award winning former journalist Rodney Palmer about the changes he has witnessed in main stream media during the COVID-19 era. Mr. Palmer will expose how media was used to share messages that promoted approved consensus rather than fostering scientific debate. Censoring of alternate views and discrediting valid scientific and medical findings impacted opportunities for Canadians to make informed medical decisions. Learn more about the impact this had on our well-being and the future of journalism.

Many Canadians use natural health products for a variety of reasons, including maintaining and replacing the nutrients that support the immune system. Recent federal legislation is placing Canadians' access to these products at risk. Visit the Natural Health Products Protection Association (NHPPA) to learn more about these issues.
