To Our Good Mental Health
August 2022/Issue XXXV

The Lilla McLane-Bradley Award for Mental Health Advocacy was presented to Chris Christopoulos, Jr, the City of Lebanon Fire Chief and Emergency Management Director for his commitment to advance the cause of mental health and substance use disorder awareness and crisis response services throughout our region. Chief Christopoulos shares those values that motivate West Central staff members to treat clients with compassion and expert care. He continues to make significant contributions through his work regionally and throughout the City of Lebanon. His multi-year commitment to Paddlepower, West Central’s historical suicide awareness community event, and his ongoing efforts to ensure community members are safe and cared for in times of crisis make Chief Christopoulos a role model for others who serve our communities as volunteers and professionals. Established in 2007, this award honors a community member who embodies the volunteer spirit and service for which Lilla McLane-Bradley—a founder of West Central—is remembered.

Lights, Camera, Action!
A Viewpoint with Dennis Quaid mini-documentary on our mobile crisis response efforts with NH Rapid Response Access Point is in the works! A professional video shoot with seventeen West Central staff members and one community member took place at our Rivermill clinic on July 27th. We'll let you know when this video will air on PBS nationally -- still a few months away, but an exciting day to be in a Hollywood-like setting with cameras, lighting, microphones, a professional video crew for the shoot, and more! Heartfelt thanks to the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation for sponsoring this project.

A Generous Gift of Art

Well-known artist Henry Isaacs of Sharon, VT recently visited our Development & Community Relations office at our Rivermill clinic in Lebanon. His artistic eye and keen sense of environmental aesthetic prompted his comment, "You need art on these walls!" Soon thereafter, Henry, whose work is known globally for its vibrant colors, New England perspectives, and unique, "broken brushstroke" style, donated several of his signed and numbered giclee prints as in-kind gifts. Here are some of his works that now grace our walls and halls, offering our clients and staff that buoyant feeling Henry's artwork so readily conveys. We're exceedingly grateful, and feeling much brighter at work each day thanks to Henry's thoughtful and generous gifts of art!

The Search for a New DHHS Commissioner

A focus on mental health is a large part of the conversation when choosing the next NH Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) commissioner. This article makes a case for expanding upon the strong direction taken to ensure access to community mental health treatment by current DHHS Commissioner Lori Shibinette who will step down at the end 2022.
