Mobile Crisis Response
West Central announces its launch of a 24/7 Mobile Crisis Response program as part of a state-wide initiative. Click here to read the press release.
As we roll out our new Mobile Crisis Response Teams, collaboration with local towns and police departments is crucial to developing the best and quickest way to respond to crisis situations. On July 22, 2021, our mobile crisis staff leaders met with various town and police department representatives including Lebanon, Hanover, and Enfield. We'll be working together closely to ensure the safety of all our community members.

Prioritizing Mental Health
The conversation begins. Let’s all speak openly about our mental health. Until we normalize talking about mental health as part of our overall health, we won’t help ourselves get better. We’re all in this together. Many thanks to our athletes for speaking out about the pressure to perform and the need to step back. Click here to read more.

Survey: A Real-Time Window into our Mental Health
The U.S. Census Bureau’s new household pulse survey shows that a third of American adults now show symptoms of anxiety, depression, or both as a result of the pandemic. This is a huge jump from pre-pandemic levels and, as the WaPo article states: It's not normal for this many Americans to feel this way." See the article and survey results here.

Need for Treatment and Recovery Options
Back in April, 2020, at the pandemic's height, we launched a Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) program in Claremont for treatment and recovery for people addicted to opioids. We're glad we did, especially with recent news about skyrocketing opioid addiction and overdose death rates during the pandemic that will last far into the future. This article outlines some of the troubling statistics, stating: "This has been an incredibly uncertain and stressful time for many people and we are seeing an increase in drug consumption, difficulty in accessing life-saving treatments for substance use disorders, and a tragic rise in overdose deaths." Our newly launched Mobile Crisis Response program also figures prominently in our ability to offer critical community crisis support going forward.

Here at West Central...
There are changes on the horizon with our newly introduced Mobile Crisis Response program. Our current 24/7 Mobile Crisis Response Line, 1-800-564-2578, will be in use until the end of 2021. Starting in January 2022, a new 24/7 centralized 1-800 dispatch number will be introduced in New Hampshire. We will provide updates as they happen. We continue to reconvene group therapy sessions in our facilities with air purifiers and CO2 monitors to help with indoor air quality. As a reminder, masks are still required at all our locations. We are closely monitoring the progress of the Delta variant and continue to encourage our clients and others in the community to get vaccinated. The time is now to roll up your sleeve for yourself and others.

Summer Self-Care...
Summer is a great time to relax and reset. Studies have shown that people are happier in the summer because they spend more time in the sunlight and engaging in activities that bring them joy. With so much uncertainty in the air, it is important to make time for self-care even if it is something as simple as taking a walk to relieve stress. Our InSHAPE team offered this summer relaxation tip: "Sometimes, just learning to accept what you cannot change can help ease the burden of stress."
