Welcome new CiHS parents!
You will receive this newsletter on occasion from CiHS to keep you informed and provide links to general program information and resources from Central Washington University.
Most frequent question: Where do I pay online?
Students have two accounts with CWU.
First, the CiHS Registration Account
  • The cihs.cwu.edu website is only for student registration
  • This is where students sign up for CWU courses, and
  • Where parents/guardians give consent, and
  • administrators at the high school add information (class period, test scores, etc.) and give Approval.
  • Once the school Approves and the Consent is received, we at the CWU CiHS office process the registrations and move them forward. The student and class information rolls into the main CWU database and the student is fully enrolled.
  • At that time, the course and any accompanying charges hit the student's MyCWU account.
Second, the student's MyCWU account
  • MyCWU is the permanent, official record for all CWU students, and is the connection to financial records, grades, transcripts, and access to CWU resources such as Library services, tutoring, academic advising, and more.
  • Students receive an email and a hard-copy letter via USPS with their MyCWU log-in credentials the first time they enroll with CWU. They need to watch for that information and keep it in a safe place. It's only sent once.
  • Students need to activate their MyCWU accounts.
  • FERPA (federal privacy law) prevents us from providing secure account information such as log-in credentials to anyone other than the student named. If your student has lost their credentials, they need to call us and we will help them get access to their account.
  • At CWU your student is considered an adult, and their account (including financial information) is under their control. See more about FERPA below.
  • But I'm the parent! how do I find the place to pay online?
  • Ask your student to log into their MyCWU account and check the balance by going to their Student dashboard, and then the Financial tab (left column).

University Policy - FERPA
Federal privacy law or FERPA (Family Education Rights and Privacy Act) dictates that all students who attend a college or university are regarded as adults, regardless of age.
  • Students have expanded privacy protections as CWU students, compared to what they have as high school students.
  • At CWU, your student's account and records belong to them, and that means that CWU staff are unable to discuss many aspects about the student with the parent, unless the student has given us permission.
  • CiHS staff is happy to answer general program questions.
  • If there are questions about a particular student's records, account, or private information (such as passwords) the student needs to reach out directly to us.
Students may grant parents permission to access their accounts by submitting a Release of Information. Students can designate certain types of information and start and end dates for access to their parents/guardians. Specific instructions are found at the Student Participation Guide, under Release of Information.
