Dr. Lisa Genova, author and neuroscientist, visits WKU for Presidential Speaker Series

Dr. Lisa Genova, a #1 International and New York Times Bestselling Author and Neuroscientist, visited WKU on Tuesday as part of the WKU Presidential Speaker Series. Members of the campus community gathered at Van Meter Auditorium for Dr. Genova’s presentation, How We Remember and Why We Forget. Dr. Genova discussed the science of the human mind alongside strategies for improving one’s memory. As part of her visit to WKU, Dr. Genova met with students for a Q&A in Snell Hall and discussed neuroscience, memory, and her bestselling novels. In her novels, Dr. Genova writes stories that are equally inspired by neuroscience and the human spirit. Her debut novel, Still Alice, was adapted into a film starring Julianne Moore. Moore won the 2015 Best Actress Oscar for her role as Alice Howland.

The WKU Presidential Speaker Series brings influential voices from diverse fields of study to campus as a complement to students’ classroom experiences. Learn more about the series.

Spotlight: Alexandria Anderson

However, what began as a fallback option quickly transformed into a pivotal chapter in her life, steering her toward a career in biological anthropology and away from her childhood dream of becoming an orthopedic surgeon.
