AUUF Seder April 4

6:00 to 8:00 pm It’s time for a seder, UU-style:

As most of you know, a seder is the ritual meal that Jewish families prepare for the first night of Passover. There is a collective telling of the story of Passover, then a shared meal. We have a tradition of celebrating the holiday with UU twists. Even for religious Jews, the seder is a story of liberation and religious freedom. It is also a time of committing to work for others who still suffer without that freedom. Our seder emphasizes those themes.

We will gather in the social room. Please try to come around 5:45, so you can settle into your seat at the table, and we can begin our ritual storytelling promptly at 6. The ritual and storytelling take about an hour. We tell the story through food as well as words, so there is special food to eat along the way.

Please bring something for a potluck, which we will start right after we finish our shared storytelling. A traditional seder has many rules – no bread, no mixing meat and dairy, for example – but we are flexible. Bring whatever you are in the mood to cook and eat. Google seder or call me if you want some traditional ideas.

This is a family friendly event. Noisy kids who have a hard time sitting still are welcome. Older children who really want to learn something about a new holiday are especially welcome. Your non-UU friends who’d like to come to a seder are also welcome. There is always room for a stranger, who will become a friend.

I need a few volunteers to help set up the room, and a few to help clean-up afterward. Please let me know if you can assist.

You can come even if you don’t RSVP, but if you do RSVP, that’ll help us know how many tables and chairs to set up.

For questions, RSVPs, and offers to help, reach me at susano@reevesamodio.com or 907-952-1668 (call or text).

Looking forward to seeing many of you.

Mailing It In!

Dennis Arashiro

Join our Anti-Racism Team THIS SUNDAY, APRIL 5, 2026, for the ACLU Prison Project  newsletter assembly for mailing in the Social Room of the Fellowship right after the Worship Service.  The newsletter will go to those incarcerated in Alaska prisons to let them know that they are not forgotten  and to provide them with news and information to protect their rights and improve their lives. This is our  contribution to the efforts of the ACLU to bring actual justice and humanity into our justice system.

The Social Room will be set up for the separate tasks of envelope stuffing, address updating, and  envelope addressing. Our Henry Ford assembly line should make the task quick and efficient, allowing  the mailing to go out the following day. So, have a cup of coffee after the Worship Service while  enjoying the company of progressive fellow travelers. See you Sunday!

Membership Required for Voting at AUUF Annual Meeting

April 5th deadline

We're having our annual meeting again soon, 10:00 am May 3, 2026 where we'll decide on our budget for the next year (and implicitly how our budget serves our mission). We'll also talk about our Social Justice Pillars and how we'd like to proceed with these for next year. If you would like to participate in these decisions you need to be an official member by April 5. If you've been considering this for a while, or just now, please talk with Rev. Lise about any questions you may have and to sign our membership book. (If you don't want to join, you can still come to the meeting and express opinions and are welcome to do so.)

AUUF Variety Show

Sat. May 9 from 5:00 - 8:00 pm

AUUF is excited to announce the second annual Variety Show! This year it will be hosted by Wray Kinard - think Lawrence Welk and Ed Sullivan but funnier! It will start at 5:00 pm with a potluck dinner (please bring something to share) in the social hall followed by the performances in the sanctuary beginning at 5:45 pm. We aim to be done by 7:30, but based on the interest last year the show may be extended to 8:00 pm. Suggested donation of $20 to help close our annual operating budget gap.

INTERESTED IN PERFORMING? We're looking for anyone in the fellowship or with a personal connection to AUUF who wants to perform in a fun, relaxed and family-friendly environment. The AUUF Variety Show is Saturday, May 9 from 5-8pm. Performances are limited to 5 minutes. All ages and skill levels are welcome. Examples include (but are not limited to), singing, playing music, juggling, telling jokes, dancing, reciting poetry, or telling a story. Please keep UU principles in mind: interdependence, pluralism, justice, transformation, generosity, and equity. Submit this form by Sunday April 26

April HALF PORTION FOR SOCIAL ACTION:

CITIZENS’ CLIMATE EDUCATION

Dennis Arashiro & Sara Hannon

“Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.”

 -  Teddy Roosevelt

Earth Day was originally held on April 22nd, 1970 as a protest and teach-in following a massive oil spill which blanketed the Southern California coast near Santa Barbara in 1969. During the first Earth Day, it is estimated that up to 20 million Americans took to the streets to protest industries polluting the environment and endangering human health. Now, it is estimated that over 1 billion people worldwide will participate in Earth Day this year. Protection of the environment and our planet aligns with our pillar of immigration and refugee justice as climate change is connected to crop failures, climate related migration, and natural disasters worldwide. This year, let’s consider our fellow Alaskans who are affected by climate change related disasters and those displaced worldwide as we embrace renewable sources of energy and reduce our impact.

Citizens’ Climate Education (CCE) is a nonpartisan grassroots advocacy organization that empowers people from diverse backgrounds to educate key stakeholders, policymakers and the general public about effective solutions to climate change. Alongside its sister organization, Citizens’ Climate Lobby, the CCE works to build political will for impactful climate solutions. For the entire month of April, half our Sunday collections will go to this cause.
