Soup Sunday

March 16, after the 11:00 am Service

Let’s send Rev. Lise off to her sabbatical in style! The Connections Team is hosting a Soup Sunday on March 16, the last time we’ll see Rev. Lise until her return in July.

If you can help with soup, bread, side salad, set up, or clean up, please contact Joan Frankevich at 907-250-6056 or fireweed59@gci.net.

Thank you!

A Little More Sabbatical Information . . .

Rev. Lise

I’ll be in the pulpit this Sunday and then the next time you’ll see me there will July 6, 2025. Remember, except for the occasional postcard that I’ll send to AUUF, I’ll be incommunicado for my time away. Richard, our administrator, and Don, our Board President, will know how to get hold of me in an emergency.

As you can imagine, the last week has been busy with last-minute prep, both at AUUF and at home, but I think we’re ready. I really enjoyed everyone’s participation in the service last Sunday (sharing how you’ve contributed to our shared ministry), your confidence, can-do attitudes, and your well wishes. It’s been wonderful to see how excited you are about my adventure and I’m looking forward to sharing snippets via postcards and more when I get back.

One little update, Renee Frost will also be a contact person for the Worship Team and I’ve added her name to the list of contacts below.

Please be well and take care of one another. And enjoy the snow!!!

Love and blessings, Rev. Lise

Thank you to all our AUUF members and friends for their pledges!

The annual pledge drive is officially over for next year, FY26, with a total of $301,456 received to date for income for our upcoming year! Thanks to all of you who have made this financial commitment to the future health of AUUF! If you requested that your pledge change begin in March, it should be evident on your credit card or bank statement for the month. Remember, that it is NEVER too late to make a pledge or change your pledge amount. Please contact Richard in the office or complete a pledge form that is in the workroom or on the membership table.

You will be hearing more about our pledges and other revenue sources with the proposed budget for FY26. That information will be sent along with the Annual Meeting information by April 5th. The Annual Meeting is on May 4 at 10am. Put it on your calendar now!

In July we will send by email a reminder of your pledge for the new fiscal year as a confirmation. November is usually the time to send an electronic reminder about making an end of the tax year donation. By the end of January, the office sends an “IRS” statement, listing ALL the tax-deductible donations you have made during the prior calendar year. This year we sent it along with the pledge materials by USPS. Other times it is sent by email. In May, we will send a reminder about finishing paying pledges for FY25 ONLY if you are behind and not on automatic payments. That is usually a very small number of people.

Again, thank you for your support!

Peggy

Planning OWL (Our Whole Lives) for the 2025/2026 school year

During the 2025/2026 school year we'd like to be able to offer OWL to Grades K-1 and Grades 10-12. However, In order to do this we need volunteers. If you have been a past (or present) OWL instructor and would be willing to be put in the rotation for teaching please contact Jenn at dre@anchorageuuf.org and we can set up a time to chat. Ideally, we'd like to have four instructors per age group and rotate lessons. Are you willing to instruct once or twice a month?

If you have not been trained but are willing to be, the schedule for online trainings is now out! Contact me and I can connect you with the options available.

To learn more about OWL click here.

March HALF PORTION FOR SOCIAL ACTION:

CITIZENS CLIMATE EDUCATION

    Dennis Arashiro

“Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.”

-   Teddy Roosevelt

Earth Hour:  8:30 PM local time throughout the world, Saturday, March 22, 2025.  Originating in 2007 with the World Wildlife Fund, Earth Hour is an annual event to turn off non-essential electric lights for a single hour.  A  single small step that is both a symbolic gesture to address climate change and an action with positive tangible results.  Research indicates 274 instances of observable reductions in electrical consumption, to the tune of an overall 4 percent change.  An hour of hope to fight the despair that can come when facing a global threat.  To align ourselves with this positive step, we have designated Citizens’ Climate Change Education as the recipient of the March 2024 Half Portion for Social Action.

Citizens’ Climate Education (CCE) is a nonpartisan grassroots advocacy organization that empowers people from diverse backgrounds to educate key stakeholders, policymakers and the general public about effective solutions to climate change.  Alongside its sister organization, Citizens’ Climate Lobby, the CCE works to build political will for impactful climate solutions.  For the entire month of April, half our Sunday collections will go to this cause.

You can contribute in person at our Sunday services or online by visiting anchorageuuf.org click on the Half-Portion note or Donate/ Pay at the bottom of the home page. Enter your donation under “Half-Portion for Social Action."
