Sunday Worship Service

Sunday May 31, 2026, 11:00 AM

IN- PERSON and on Zoom

This Sunday, bring some cut flowers to share. We'll recreate the Flower Ceremony begun in a Czech congregation in 1923. The flowers represent our congregational diversity (remember there are many ways to be diverse) and the beauty of our congregation when we see and honor all our different gifts.

Payment In Lieu of Taxes (PILOT)

Assembly Meeting

Tues, June 23, 2026 at 5:15 PM

Come one, come all! AUUF is scheduled to present Payment In Lieu of Taxes (PILOT) at the Assembly Meeting on Tuesday, June 23 during the 5:15 PM portion of the meeting. We would love to have as many UU members and friends with us as possible! The meeting is in the Assembly Chambers on the first floor of the Loussac Library at 3600 Denali Street. This is always a very positive and well-received item on the Assembly's agenda, and the more folks we bring, the merrier.

Manitoba Huts Glamping Opportunity

Hi all,

Our AUUF Manitoba weekend is coming up on June 27-28 and we have space available!! This is a wonderful weekend about a half mile from the road to Seward (past Turnagain Pass) - it is beautiful with blooming flowers in late June. We have rented the Manitoba Huts whole shebang from noon Saturday until noon Sunday. This is a fundraiser for AUUF so it is $150 pp which includes a bunk in one of the two yurts, dinner Saturday and breakfast Sunday. Meals are provided by Carma and Susan. There is great hiking around if that is your thing. The main hike is usually Sunday, led by Carma and/or Susan. We usually have a shorter hike on Saturday—leader to be determined (it depends on when people arrive and what the hosts are making for dinner!) Or you can hang out at the cabin , which is where we have our meals. There is a campfire, a sauna, a rushing river, there are stories to be told and card games to be played!

As you know, this opportunity was part of the AUUF auction last November and not all the spaces were filled. We would love for you to join us! If you want to join us contact me at 907-727-5275, text, call or by email. If you have questions call me or Susan. We’d love to have you, and the church will benefit too! Children are welcome - two come free with the price of one adult. Spread the word!

It's fun!! Join us!

Help Needed at Peace Camp

We need volunteers in a few areas for Peace Camp 2026.

Week 2 is June 8-12 with our workshops exploring Japan.

Lunch Buddies June 1-5 and June 8-12. Volunteers sit with a cabin group (approx 10 kids) for lunch while the teen leads take their lunch break. (Approximate time commitment of 11:45am-12:45pm)

Check-In Table- June 8-12- Staff the check in table while their grown ups sign their camper in at the beginning of each day. (Approximate time commitment of 9am-10am)

Check Out Table- June 1, June 3, June 8-12- Staff the Check out table while their grown ups sign their campers out for the day. (Approximate time commitment of 3:15pm-4pm)

Bike outings- assist a group of campers with at least one other adult and two teen leads on a bike ride during the afternoon. The biggest need is for our least experienced biking group, typically the youngest campers. Extra adult on site- Be at camp to assist as needed, observe, and pop into workshops. Can be a half day or full day commitment. Camp Hours are 9:30am-3:30pm.

Anchorage Zen Community

How Do We Hold This Moment?

With Koun Franz

Friday, June 12 at 6:30 PM

Whether it's our personal lives or the state of the world, at times it can feel like it's all just too much. Instead of teaching a way out, Buddhism teaches us a way into suffering, into unknowability, into the vast complexity of being alive.

All are invited to a public talk on Friday, June 12 at 6:30pm at AUUF. This event is free and donations are appreciated.

Koun Franz, Anchorage Zen Community Guiding Priest. Koun previously served the AZC community as Residential Priest from 2006 to 2010 and Interim Priest from 2023 to 2026. Koun is also the founder and resident priest of Thousand Harbours Zen in Halifax, Nova Scotia and serves as Guiding Kyoshi of Soto Zen North America, the new Soto Zen denomination.

May HALF PORTION FOR SOCIAL ACTION:

ALASKA LITERACY PROGRAM

May is National Get Caught Reading Month and May 3rd, is World Press Freedom Day. Alaska Literacy Program improves lives through literacy and English language courses, supporting employment and community empowerment.

Alaska Literacy Program is a volunteer-based community agency with the mission of changing lives through literacy. For 50 years, we have taught adults to read, write and speak English. The learners come from all over the world, including the United States. They come to class to learn the skills needed to get and keep a job in Alaska, help their children in school, become citizens and understand their new home country.

Since 1974, ALP has been providing literacy services to Anchorage residents and individuals throughout the state. ALP recruits, trains, certifies, and supports volunteer teachers who work in a classroom setting teaching reading, writing and speaking English to adults. ALP provides these core English language classes year-round for adults and families with young children, concentrating on those most in need. In recent years we’ve also gained the opportunity to serve other Anchorage area adult learners such as GED students.
