Sports/Athlete Quote of the Day

On This Day In Baseball History

Ted Williams Tribute
Ted Williams Tribute
2002
Over 20,000 Red Sox fans gather at Fenway for a tribute entitled, "Ted Williams: A Celebration of an American Hero." The two hour salute of the man many considered to be the greatest hitter in baseball history, a vet of World War II and the Korean War and a generous supporter of the Jimmy Fund, in addition to moving music and video, includes comments from present and former Red Sox players and broadcasters, historian Ken Burns, and former U.S. Senator John Glenn, who was Ted's wing man during the Korean War.

2012 - The A's, after tying the game with a run in the bottom of the ninth, complete their sweep of New York with a 5-4 walk-off victory in the 12th inning at The Coliseum. It marks the first time in Yankees history that the Bronx Bombers have been swept in a four-game series while losing all four by one run.

**NOTE:  I don't write this stuff!  If it is wrong ... take it up with Baseball Almanac.  ;-)

Bosses versus Workers

When I take a long time, I am slow.
When my boss takes a long time, he is thorough.

When I don't do it, I am lazy.
When my boss doesn't do it, he's too busy.

When I do it without being told, I'm trying to be smart.
When my boss does the same, that is initiative.

When I please my boss, that's brown-nosing.
When my boss pleases his boss, that's co-operating.

When I do good, my boss never remembers.
When I do wrong, he never forgets.

I'm with you Ellie. I was gritting my teeth with that guy. It was awful! It's not like they announce seven days a week, fifty two weeks a year. They don't announce when games are on Fox so what's the problem. Leave them there, please, no more " guests" unless they are ill.

Good luck and thoughts to Trish on the mission trip to Mexico! Congratulations, good luck and wonderful weather for the upcoming Run to Home Base on Saturday and Pedro's Hall of Fame Induction Sunday. Well deserved and brought so many wonderful moments. I, for one, am very happy that no longer have to hear or talk about the curse!

Ellie from Acton, I totally agree with your thought! NESN needs to wake up with their idea that Don and Jerry need to "refresh" during the baseball season. If I want to listen to someone other than our "team, Don and Jerry" than why watch NESN. The last two games with Don's replacement was so boring and monotone that Jerry barely speaks! It is almost like he is not even there, or maybe he has fallen asleep from boredom! We need the banter between Don and Jerry, especially when we are watching the Sox loose! Wake up NESN, you are going to loose your viewers!

Well Trish, I have to give you credit for not putting the box scores in "The Joke of The Day" section!! I'm a loyal fan and will "wear my colors" for this team no matter what...But do they HAVE to make it so hard to do?? I can't even imagine how discouraged THEY must be....Let alone John Henry as he "signs the paychecks" every week. Well, as fans said for 86 years..There's always next year!

I'm with you Ellie from Acton. I guess having October - February off isn't enough "vacation" time according to NESN. We've been spoiled for so long that I do not know what I would do if Don or Jerry ever left for good. Hopefully, we will never have to find out!

Why is Brock Holt being punished? Or why are the fans being punished when they keep our lone All Star out of the line up? What is going on?

I have taken a lot of heat for my skeptism, disappointment, frustration and even anger with the Red Sox. Now 10 games out and a dismal post All Star break start, I am curious to know who things the Sox will still turn it around this season? I am not trying to be sarcastic or antagonist by asking. I sincerely want to know.
