Celebrate Pi Day with the Pi helix!

What is Pi helix? The pi helix is a spiral shaped fold related to pi (3.14…) that happens when certain parts of a molecule twist around each other. Less common than the alpha helix, this special kind of twist is an important way molecules like proteins fold up to do their jobs in the body!

Although rare, the Pi helix can be found in lipoxygenases – a group of enzymes involved in inflammation, some skin disorders, and the formation of tumors.

National DNA Day is coming up soon!

National DNA Day is celebrated on April 25 each year and commemorates both the successful completion of the Human Genome Project in 2003, and the discovery of DNA's double helix by James Watson and Francis Crick in 1953.
