Weekly Newsletter

I am a big holiday person, and love taking any opportunity to celebrate! My love language is gifts, so typically, my idea of celebration is finding the perfect present, card, or lunchbox note to commemorate the significance of the day. With Mother's Day this weekend, my gift-giving heart has felt very lost amidst the online Gift Guides and greeting card aisles, missing my mom and imagining the perfect way I'd honor this special day for her.

I'm grateful to be able to celebrate my grandma this weekend, as well as honoring my sisters with special cards to recognize this year's unique feelings. I even bought the card I'd have given to my mom, one with a flower wreath that says "First my mother, forever my friend." I plan on still writing my message to her, and decorating the envelope beautifully!

Marking the significance of life's moments- big and small, celebrations and sorrows- is something I'm lucky to do within Student Ministries. During Taco Tuesday, for example, on Tuesday, May 14th, Middle School students will be sharing around the table their highs and lows of the past week. The highs will be applauded and the lows will be prayed for as a group. At our Graduation Passage Retreat and Congregation Recognition, we'll be reflecting on the past four years, a journey where students have grown deeper in their unique gifts and passions. And later this summer, at the Crossover Retreat, we'll be looking to the exciting future as our fifth graders move up to Middle School, with all the joys and fears that come with that big transition.

Anytime we are gathered together, it is a time for calling out the importance of this very day and all that has impacted it, expressing gratitude for the journey, and celebrating with those who support us. I hope students can join us in Intersect this Sunday to make special cards for their moms, grandmas, and other women in their lives as a marker of celebration!
