COVID-19 vaccine update
A suburban Cook County website launched Monday that is intended to enable residents to sign up for COVID-19 vaccine information. Eligible Phase 1b residents -- essential workers and people 65 and older -- can make appointments for shots. Be warned, however, that demand far exceeds supply and it could be some time before an appointment opens.

Signing up will provide information regarding when people are eligible to receive a dose, how to schedule an appointment for a vaccine through the Cook County Department of Public Health (CCDPH) and updates on other vaccination distribution locations throughout Cook County. CCDPH stressed that the website will only reflect appointments where vaccine is guaranteed. Registration can also be made by telephone to (833) 308-1988 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. It is also difficult to get through on the hotline number at this time.

Phase 1b is about six times as large as Phase 1a (health care personnel and residents of long-term care facilities), with 3.2 million people who qualify statewide. In suburban Cook County, that comes to about 375,000 residents age 65 and older and about 270,000 essential workers. Therefore, Cook County asks for your patience.

There are more than 90 locations in suburban Cook County where CCDPH plans to distribute vaccines for administration, including hospitals, and select Walgreens, CVS, Mariano's, Jewel-Osco and, soon, Wal-Mart stores. Additionally, large-scale Cook County sites are being set up, with the first opened January 26 in Tinley Park.

Please note that the Village of Glenview is NOT a vaccination authority. Staff CANNOT register residents or make appointments. Glenview will continue to press for information from health authorities and share it on the website, through special E-Glenview newsletters and on social media (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram) as it becomes available..

The state of Illinois launched a COVID-19 vaccination locator website. The site will provide eligible residents with nearby vaccination sites, information on how to make an appointment to receive the vaccine, updates on the state's plan and eligibility, and answers to frequently asked questions about the COVID-19 vaccine.

State Senator Laura Fine (D-9th) has scheduled a virtual town hall meeting on the ongoing COVID-19 vaccine distribution effort at 7 p.m. Tuesday, February 2. Register here to attend.

COVID-19 mitigation status
Now under Tier 1 resurgence mitigation measures of the state's COVID-19 mitigation plan, Glenview and suburban Cook County (Region 10) can allow limited access to bars and restaurants. Specifically, bars and restaurants can seat customers inside at the lesser of 25-percent capacity or 25 people per room. Among other loosened rules, gyms and fitness centers are allowed to reopen with 50-percent capacity limits and other public health precautions in place.

State health officials remind everyone to continue to wear face coverings, watch your distance and wash hands frequently -- the 3 Ws -- to avoid another surge that would require higher levels of mitigation measures again. Large events and gatherings still need to be avoided.
