EC BOC considers ordinance change, approves rezone requests | |
By Mark Berryman

The Elbert County Board of Commissioners heard the first reading of an amendment to the Zoning Ordinance for Farm Wineries at this week’s monthly meeting.
According to County Attorney Bill Daughtry, the ordinance currently classifies weddings and wedding receptions as special events, which require a number of steps and requirements prior to the event, including group size limitations and on-site security. Daughtry indicated the requirements were unnecessary and burdensome to farm wineries and suggested commissioners remove weddings and wedding receptions from the list of special events.
He also stated concerts and reunions, which are also on the list, would remain.
There was no discussion concerning the amendment at the meeting. A second reading will be held in June.
Commissioners also approved the following rezone requests:
· Rusty Adams requested a variance to encroach setback requirements of property line and right-of-way at 2763 Cedar Creek Road. Adams also requested a rezone from Mixed Use to Industrial for 1201 Allen Logan Road;
· Zachary Myers requested a rezone from Rural Residential to Agricultural for property on O.W. Adams Road in Dewy Rose;
· Lynne Worley requested a rezone from Mixed Use to Agricultural for 3572 Anderson Highway;
· Charles Fleming requested a rezone from Rural Residential to Single Family Residential for 1932 For Creek Circle in Bowman;
· Vieng lee requested a rezone from Agricultural to Single Family Residential for 2252 Indian Hills Road.
All six requests had received a 4-0 vote in favor of the change from the Planning and Zoning Board.
Commissioners also approved a resolution for the annexation of 5.39 acres on Calhoun Falls Highway to the City of Elberton. The property will be used as a fire department training facility.

Show Synopsis: Struggling artist Payne Showers finally gets his big break. He dies. Fortunately, Payne's death greatly inflates the value of his work. Unfortunately, his estranged wife, Maggie, must sell it all to avoid bankruptcy. Just days before the auction, Maggie and her high-strung gallery manager, Richard, host a private showing. The guests of honor are influential newspaper maven Judith Fontaine; the fabulously rich real estate mogul Mick Fitzgerald; Trent, a gorgeous but dim-witted soap opera actor; Graciela, a streetwise cocktail waitress; and Emma, a humorless art critic. To Maggie's delight, Mick Fitzgerald buys dozens of paintings. Not only will the deal rescue her financially, but Judith Fontaine is covering the story. The resulting publicity will put Maggie's gallery on the map. At this point, the only thing that could go wrong would be if Payne Showers were to walk through the door… then Payne Showers walks through the door.
