Shop local: Elbert Chamber, Main Street Elberton proclaim 'Small Business Season'

105.3 WSGC News - The Elbert County Chamber of Commerce and Main Street Elberton have joined forces to announce that it’s Small Business Season in Elbert County.

Throughout the holiday shopping season, the chamber and Main Street are encouraging consumers to “Think Small” and earmark at least part of their holiday spending in support of local small business.

According to Rebecca Holliday, executive director of the Elbert Chamber, small business is the backbone of our economy. Approximately 64% of new jobs in the U.S. come from small business. When people spend their dollars locally, more money stays local. On average, for every $100 spent locally, $68 of that stays here.

Crystal Beebe, manager of Main Street Elberton, added that promoting Small Business Season is intended to encourage people to patronize all sorts of small businesses during the holidays. In addition to retail options, there are dining establishments, personal service providers and even local artisans that need local support. Small Business Season is a way to help local residents develop a better appreciation for how their spending affects our area and quality of life.

Main Street is planning a Candle Light Shop Night and Tree Lighting event on November 22 from 5 to 8 p.m., and the Chamber will be offering free gift wrapping for any gifts purchased that evening. Main Street is currently continuing its tradition of the “12 Days of Christmas Cash” giveaway. If you shop with Main Street members through Tuesday, November 22, and save your receipts, you can enter them during Candle Light Shop Night for a chance to win $500 cash or four chances to win $100 in Downtown Dollars.

Both groups will also be promoting Shop Small Saturday on November 26. By way of increased marketing and advertising, the Chamber and Main Street will be encouraging all businesses to participate in their efforts to raise awareness of how supporting small business improves the quality of life for the entire community.

The Elbert County Chamber of Commerce and Main Street Elberton challenge everyone in the area to support small business this holiday season.
