Elberton Christmas Parade set for 4 p.m. Sunday

Entries for the parade will line up on Heard Street. The Christmas Parade travels down Elbert Street starting at Safe House Ministries (Old Coca-Cola Building), travels on the four-lane to Walgreens, then turns left into downtown Elberton Square. It will then travel through the downtown square and continue back to Heard Street. It will travel down to the old Kimbrell’s Furniture parking lot where floats and other entries will dismount in the parking lot.

Attendees are encouraged to show up early for the best spots to watch the parade.

Bowman Mistletoe Market postponed, Parade canceled to do expected rain

[email protected] – After watching weather forecasts for the past few days, the Bowman Special Events Committee has made the decision to postpone the Mistletoe Market and Christmas caroling for a week. They have also made the decision to cancel this year's Christmas Parade. The forecast is calling for a 61% chance of rain on Friday and a 90% chance on Saturday.

According to Councilwoman Henrietta Williams, the Mistletoe Market and Christmas Caroling will take place on Friday, Dec. 8, 2023 from 6-8 p.m. Attendees can shop with arts, crafts and food vendors during the Mistletoe Market.

Caroling will begin at 6 p.m. with churches, organizations and individuals singing. Prizes will be awarded for best solo and group performance.

Also, Santa will also be on hand for photos with the young and young at heart.

The committee has also made the decision to cancel the 2023 Christmas Parade and Saturday's Mistletoe Market. Williams said a number of parade entries have said they would be unable to attend the parade the following week.

Encore Productions to present A Gift To Remember at the Elbert Theatre

[email protected] - For the next two weekends, Encore Productions will present A Gift To Remember at the Elbert Theatre. The play will run Friday through Sunday on Dec. 1-3 and Dec. 8-10, 2023.

According to a synopsis, on Christmas Eve, a group of strangers are suddenly forced to take shelter at a small train depot in New Hampshire. Understandably disappointed and dispirited, they try to make the best of things with little success at first. Eventually, however, they begin to bond despite their circumstances. As the former strangers become collective friends, through patience, understanding and humor, they realize the memory of this night will be a gift to remember.

This play, based on the book “Can this be Christmas?” by Debbie Macomber, is like a Hallmark Movie come to life on the stage, and is just what your family needs to get into the Christmas spirit. The play was adapted for stage by Joseph Robinette.

Showtimes are 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday with a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday. The box office opens 30 minutes prior to showtime. Tickets are $11 in advance, $9 for students and $16 at the door. To reserve tickets call 706-213-3109.
