[email protected] - Elbert County Coroner Chuck Almond has identified an individual who died as a result of a single vehicle accident that occurred on Friday, Nov. 17, 2023. The accident occurred at approximately 21:31 in the area of 211 Lake Forest Drive and Lake Forest Circle in Elberton.

According to Almond, Tracy Routh, 53, of an Elberton address was pronounced deceased at Elbert Memorial Hospital.

Members of Elbert County EMS, the Elberton Fire Department, Elbert County First Responders, the Elberton Police Department, the Georgia State Patrol and the the Elbert County Coroner's Office responded.

The incident is being investigated by the Georgia State Patrol.

EC BOE/Bowman council to meet tonight

[email protected] – The Elbert County Board of Education will meet today at 5:30 at the Elbert County School District Offices located at 50 Laurel Drive in Elberton.

According to the agenda, board members will:

• Acknowledge recognitions
• Receive public comment
• Review the financial report - Keith Martin
• Receive the superintendent's report - Robert Wheeler
• Approve action items
• Consent agenda
• Intercom at ECMS
• Board meeting dates for calendar year 2024
• Ford Expedition
• Tennis court locker room facility
• Approve personnel resignation(s) and/or retirement(s)
• Approve overnight field trip request(s)
• Hold an executive session (if needed)
• Discuss new business

The City of Bowman will also hold a called meeting today at 6 p.m. followed by the monthly work session at 7 p.m. During the called meeting, council members will read and sign the gas loan contract and hold a public hearing for the 2024 budget. No agenda has been released for the work session.

As the “Voice of the Blue Devils” Marvin Denny said at the end of the game in Trion on Friday night, “Nobody thought we could do it but we did.” Denny was referring to the Elbert County Blue Devils' 42-41 overtime win in the second round of the state playoffs.

The win took huge efforts from every facet of the squad as the offense scored when it mattered most, the defense even put points on the board and denied the Bulldogs a two-point conversion in overtime that would have given the game to Trion. Special teams play was also key as every extra point attempt was critical.

Elbert County's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-2. The road to the Elite 8 was not an easy one as Elbert County faced tough opposition over that stretch, including 9-3 Rabun County and 8-4 Mount Vernon.

As for Trion, their loss ended a ten-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 11-1, ending their season.

Elbert County will face off against Swainsboro at 7 p.m. on Friday in the Granite Bowl. Look for more about that game later this week here at the home of the Elbert County Blue Devils, 105.3 WSGC.
