Opening Words

Shared by Pastor Ken

One: Who are we and what are we called to do?

All: We are the sensitive and responsive ones called to create a world where every person is radically affirmed, and barriers between people become

bridges of inclusion, justice, and spirituality.

Call to Worship ~ Alex Black

One: If you need good news,

All: settle into this space. We have good news to share.

One: If you need a word of hope,

All: then trust us when we say, there is hope enough to go

around.

One: If you need a glimmer of joy,

All: then you’re in luck! We have resilient joy abounding.

One: If you need to feel God’s presence in your midst,

All: then know that this is God’s house.

One: This is the good news of the gospel.

All: God is here. Love is real. Joy is on the move. Let us

worship our with-us God!

Singing Our Faith ~ Joyful, Joyful

1. Joyful, joyful, we adore thee, God of glory, God of love;

Hearts unfold like flowers before thee, Opening to the sun

above.

Melt the clouds of sin and sadness, drive the dark of doubt

away;

Giver of immortal gladness, fill us with the light of day.

2. All thy works with joy surround thee, earth and heav’n reflect

thy rays,

Stars and angels sing around thee, center of unbroken praise.

Field and forest, vale and mountain, flowery meadow, flashing

sea,

Chanting bird and flowing fountain, call us to rejoice in thee.

3. Thou art giving and forgiving, ever blessing, ever blest,

Wellspring of the joy of living, ocean depth of happy rest!

God, Creator, Christ, Redeemer, all who live in love are thine;

Teach us how to love each other, lift us to the joy divine.

4. Mortal, join the mighty chorus; starts of morning, take your

part;

Love divine is reigning o’er us, binding those of tender heart;

Ever singing, moving onward, loving in the midst of strife,

Joyful music leads us sunward, in the triumph song of life.

Centering Moment ~ Pastor Ken

Invitation to Confession ~ Alex Black

Family of faith, we are like the disciples.

The day that Jesus fed 5,000, his disciples could not imagine a solution to the crowd’s hunger. They told Jesus to send the

crowds away. We often do the same. Like the disciples, we try to follow Jesus around, but when we run into issues, we often cannot imagine how we could play a part. That is why we need the Prayer of Confession.

For in this prayer, we remember that we can make a difference.

So friends, join me in this moment of truth telling. Join me in

prayer:

Prayer of Confession

Holy God, with you the impossible is possible. 5,000 can be fed. The blind can see. The hopeless can find hope. With you the impossible is possible, but we are quick to forget that.

We look at our hurting world and tell ourselves that nothing can be done. We forget that you empowered the disciples to feed the crowd. We forget that you are always with us.

Forgive our small-minded ways.

Forgive us for doubting that change could ever come.

But even more so, forgive us when we refuse to be a part of it. With hope for a better tomorrow we pray, amen.

Words of Forgiveness ~ Pastor Ken

Celebrating Forgiveness and A New Start

One: Shadow Rock Family, no matter how many mistakes the disciples made, Jesus still washed their feet. Jesus still fed them. Jesus still called them beloved. The same is true for you and me, so hear and believe this good news:

All: today is a new day, and once again, we belong to God.

We are forgiven. We are called. We are not alone. What good, good news. Amen!

Invitation to Give ~

As we bring our offerings and gifts forward,

may our whole lives move forward,

in good faith,

with good feelings,

and with a good belief about the future.

May all that we give today, be blessed.

And all that we receive enrich our life and the lives of others.

In our offerings, we share not only measurable treasures of time, talents, and resources, we radically commit ourselves to sharing immeasurable gifts of forgiveness, grace, compassion, acceptance, and loving concern with each other and with ourselves.

In response to our celebrations and the deep goodness of life, our offerings for the celebration of life, in this place and beyond, shall now be received.

The Chime Calls Us to The Word About Life

Word About Life ~ Pastor Ken

The apostles gathered around Jesus and told him all that they had done and taught. He said to them,

“Come away to a deserted place all by yourselves and rest a while.” For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat. And they went away in the boat to a deserted place by themselves.

Now many saw them going and recognized them, and they

hurried there on foot from all the towns and arrived ahead of

them. As he went ashore, he saw a great crowd, and he had

compassion for them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd, and he began to teach them many things. When it grew late, his disciples came to him and said,

“This is a deserted place, and the hour is now very late; send them away so that they may go into the surrounding country and villages and buy something for themselves to eat.” But he answered them, “You give them something to eat.” They said to him, “Are we to go and buy two hundred denarii worth of bread and give it to them to eat?” And he said to them, “How many loaves have you? Go and see.” When they had found out, they said, “Five, and two fish.”

Then he ordered them to get all the people to sit down in groups on the green grass. So they sat down in groups of hundreds and of fifties. Taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven and blessed and broke the loaves and gave them to his disciples to set before the people, and he divided the two fish among them all. And all ate and were filled, and they took up twelve baskets full of broken pieces and of the fish. Those who had eaten the loaves numbered five thousand men.

Words for Mission

Led by Linda Pape

One: As you leave this place, when you meet anger, speak with love. When you meet fear, speak with hope. When you meet pain, speak with gentleness. But no matter what, speak this good news. The good news of the gospel is love and justice for all. It is joy that surprises, and it is nonviolence that transforms. These are the times!

All: We are the people!

One: All of Creation is blessed.

All: May we love all and serve all.

One: God be with you.

All: And also with you.

One: Amen.

All: Amen.

Sending Forth Song ~ Go Make a Difference

Go make a diff’rence.

We can make a diff’rence. Go make a diff’rence in the world.

Go make a diff’rence.

We can make a diff’rence. Go make a difff’rence in the world.

We are the salt of the earth, called to let the people see the love of God for you and me.

We are the light of the world, not to be hidden but be seen.

Go make a diff’rence in the world. Chorus

We are the hands of Christ, reaching out to those in need, the face of God for all to see.

We are the spirit of hope; we are the voice of peace.

Go make a diff’rence in the world. Chorus
