*Call to Worship

Adapted from A Prayer for All Saints Day, written by John Alexander Wright

Led by Rev. Dr. Tim Tutt

One: We are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses.

All: We are surrounded by those who have gone before us: family members and friends, lovers and mentors… Those who live in the memories of our hearts.

One: We are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses.

All: We are surrounded by those who work beside us: neighbors and allies, accomplices and co- conspirators… companions on the journey, fellow travelers on the way.

One: We are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses.

All: We are surrounded even by those who live beyond us: mystics who call us to see more than we think we can see… children who call us to live with hope for tomorrow.

One: We are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses.

*A Song for Gathering Gather Us In

by Marty Haugen

1. Here in this place a new light is streaming,

Now is the darkness vanished away,

See in this space our fears and our dreamings

Brought here to you in the light of this day.

Gather us in, the lost and forsaken,

Gather us in, the blind and the lame.

Call to us now, and we shall awaken;

We shall arise at the sound of our name.

2. We are the young, our lives are a myst’ry,

We are the old who yearn for your face.

We have been sung throughout all of hist’ry,

Called to be light to the whole human race.

Gather us in, the rich and the haughty.

Gather us in, the proud and the strong.

Give us a heart so meek and so lowly;

Give us the courage to enter the song.

3. Not in the dark of buildings confining,

not in some heaven, light years away,

but here in this place, the new light is shining,

now is the Kingdom, now is the day.

Gather us in and hold us forever,

Gather us in and make us your own;

Gather us in all peoples together,

fire of love in our flesh and our bone.

Invitation to Giving

Led by Sue Stuart

One: We are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses.

All: Let us give with gratitude, honoring those faithful souls whose gifts prepared the way for us.

One: Let us give in solidarity, joining our gifts with those who share life with us.

All: Let us give with hope, gladly committing to a better world for those who come after us.

In our offerings, we share not only measurable treasures of time, talents, and resources, we radically commit ourselves to sharing immeasurable gifts of forgiveness, grace, compassion, acceptance, and loving concern with each other and with ourselves.

In response to our celebrations and the deep goodness of life, our offerings for the celebration of life, in this place and beyond, shall now be received.

We Listen for Words of Life

The Chime: Calling us to Words of Life

Led by Sue Stuart

Anyone who wishes is invited to sound the chime as we focus our hearts and minds on Words of Life.

Words of Life

Shared by Rev. Dr. Tim Tutt

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith…”

–Hebrews 12:1-2

We Share a Feast of Love and Plenty

Invitation to Communion

Rev. Dr. Tim Tutt

All are welcome to take part in communion. Our offering for the communion baskets is dedicated to the Pastor’s Charitable Fund.

Prayer of Preparation

Led by Rev. Dr. Tim Tutt

One: We are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses.

All: We remember Jesus and his friends and disciples, who ate a meal of love together.

One: We remember all people of faith and goodwill, who have shared life and food together.

All: We remember the many people of Shadow Rock Church, who have shared communion together.

One: We remember all the ordinary saints who have died, who have sat at our tables to dine, laugh, cry, dream, and love.

All: We are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses.

One: And so we pray…

All: May our minds be open to the memories of those who have gone before us. May our souls be open to the inspiration we find from their lives. May this bread and cup be symbols of life, blessing, and community. May the welcome of this table remind us of the goodness of life. Amen.

Blessing of the Bread and Cup

Sharing the Bread and Cup

If you choose not to come forward, you may remain seated for a moment of quiet reflection.

*Sending Forth Song Saints of God

Chorus:

Saints of God, hear the holy Word!

Gather ‘round the table of the Lord!

Celebrate the given life, and we’ll sing a song of love:

Allelu, allelu, allelu, alleluia!

Brothers, sisters, we are the one

And our life has just begun;

In the Spirit we are young;

We can live forever.

Chorus

Make the world a unity,

Make us all one family,

Till we meet the Trinity,

And live with them forever.

Chorus

With the Church we celebrate;

Jesus’ coming we await,

So we make a holiday,

So we’ll live forever.

Chorus
