Opening Words

One: Who are we and what are we called to do?

All: We are the sensitive and responsive ones called to create a world where every person is radically affirmed and barriers between people become

bridges of inclusion, justice, and spirituality.

Singing Our Faith ~ Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus

Come, thou long-expected Jesus,

Born to set thy people free;

From our fears and sins release us;

Let us find our rest in thee.

Israel’s strength and consolation,

Hope of all the earth thou art;

Dear desire of every nation,

Joy of every longing heart.

Born Thy people to deliver,

Born a child and yet a King,

Born to reign in us forever,

Now thy gracious kingdom bring.

By thine own eternal Spirit

Rule in all our hearts alone;

By thine all sufficient merit

Raise us to thy glorious throne.

Call to Worship and Lighting the First Advent Candle ~

Roy and Barbara Zaborowski, and the Spencer Family

Barb: Over a hundred people, from the ages of two to eighty years old, were asked the question, “What gives you hope?” From the voices of different generations, hear their answers:

Abeth: My two daughters.

Celeste: Dogs wagging their tails.

Roy: Talking with young people.

Lottie: Kindness from strangers.

Barb: Spending time in the woods.

Celeste: Waffles.

Roy: Hands clasped in prayer.

Lottie: Social progress.

Abeth: The way my son calls everybody “buddy.”

Celeste: The ringing of church bells.

Barb: Babies trying over and over to take their first step.

Lottie: The turning of seasons.

Abeth: Community that feels like family.

Celeste: Books.

Roy: Friendship with my adult children.

Lottie: Advocates for justice.

Abeth: Hearing children in the pews sing the hymns.

Celeste: The sunrise every single morning.

Barb: What gives you hope?

Lottie: Today we light the candle of hope to remind ourselves that God is at work in this world.

Abeth: From generation to generation, God has brought good news of love and compassion, justice and community. Let us rest and abide in that good news. Amen.

Opening Prayer ~ In This Quiet Place

In this quiet place

In this quiet place

Help me be still and know

How can I give, and how to forgive

In this quiet place

In this quiet place

Help me be still and know

You

Like Jesus in the garden

Let me be in this quiet place

Let me see your path for me

Let me trust in your grace

In this quiet place

In this quiet place

Help me be still and know

How to be true in all I do

In this quiet place

In this quiet place

Help me be still and know

You

Celebrations For the Deep Goodness of Life

Led by Pastor Ken

This is our time to share the celebrations of our lives: birthdays, anniversaries, words of kindness and works of peace and justice.

Music for Thinking of You Cards ~

Shared by Tanner Bayles

In the pew racks are cards with the title “Thinking Of You”. Please use these cards to write a note to someone so they know they are remembered and cared for. Put the card in the offering plate when it comes by, and the church office will forward the cards to the person addressed on the card. This was one of the elements of our time together that you lifted up as important for all of us.

Thank you!

Invitation to Give ~ Roy Zaborowski

One: We are called to make real the sharing of the gifts God has given to us.

All: We offer what we have for the good of all.

Our Advent Offering is dedicated to our Immigration Justice Fund.

In our offerings, we share not only measurable treasures of time, talents, and resources, we radically commit ourselves to sharing immeasurable gifts of forgiveness, grace, compassion, acceptance, and loving concern with each other and with ourselves.

In response to our celebrations and the deep goodness of life, our offerings for the celebration of life, in this place and beyond, shall now be received.

Chime Calls Us to The Word About Life

Word About Life

Words For Mission

Led by Barbara Zaborowski

Please stand in mind, body, or spirit

One: As you leave this place, may you go knowing that from

generation to generation, we have been claimed and loved.

From generation to generation, God has been by our side.

From generation to generation, we are not alone.

The God of yesterday and the God of tomorrow knows you

by name, loves you, and calls you forth, saying,

“Go be the person you are called to be, love wildly, do justice, and come back soon.”

Embrace us as partners in the divine acts of creating.

These are the times!

All: We are the people!

One: All of Creation is blessed!

All: May we love all and serve all!

One: May God be with you.

All: And also with you.

One: Amen.

All: Amen.

Sending Forth Songs ~ Comfort, Ye My People

1. Comfort, comfort ye my people,

Speak ye peace, thus saith our God.

Comfort those who sit in darkness,

Mourning neath their sorrows' load.

Speak ye to Jerusalem

Of the peace that waits for them,

Tell her that her sins I cover,

And her warfare now is over.

2. For the herald's voice is crying

In the desert far and near,

Bidding all to true repentance,

Since the kingdom now is here.

Oh, that warning cry obey,

Now prepare for God a way;

Let the valleys rise to meet him,

And the hills bow down to greet him.

3. Make ye straight what long was crooked,

Make the rougher places plain;

Let your hearts be true and humble,

As befits His holy reign;

For the glory of the Lord

Now o'er earth is shed abroad,

And all flesh shall see the token

That his Word is never broken.

Sermon Reboot is ON for today.

This is a time to talk about the message and explore together using the ORID Art Form Conversation methodology. What is ORID? It stands for Observation, Reflection, Interpretation, and Decision. You will get the hang of it.
