Opening Words

Adapted from the By-Laws of Shadow Rock Church

Led by Tim Tutt

One: Who are we?

All: We are a community of spirit, called to celebrate the deep goodness of life.

One: Why are we here?

All: We are here as a community seeking truth, seeking holy wisdom for our lives and for the world.

One: Who do we hope to be?

All: We hope to be a community of love, striving to live out the good news of justice and peace for all persons.

One: Who are we? Why are we here? Who do we hope to be?

All: A community of spirit, truth, and love!

*Call to Worship "The Summer Day" by Mary Oliver

Read by Marilyn Rampley

Who made the world?

Who made the swan, and the black bear?

Who made the grasshopper?

This grasshopper, I mean—

the one who has flung herself out of the grass,

the one who is eating sugar out of my hand,

who is moving her jaws back and forth instead of up and down—

who is gazing around with her enormous and complicated eyes.

Now she lifts her pale forearms and thoroughly washes her face.

Now she snaps her wings open, and floats away.

I don't know exactly what a prayer is.

I do know how to pay attention, how to fall down

into the grass, how to kneel down in the grass,

how to be idle and blessed, how to stroll through the fields,

which is what I have been doing all day.

Tell me, what else should I have done?

Doesn't everything die at last, and too soon?

Tell me, what is it you plan to do

with your one wild and precious life.

*A Song for Gathering Building Bridges

Shared by Tanner Bayles

The road to people is cut with canyons,

we’re always hoping to cross.

We’ll build a bridge of love and concern,

and never count the cost.

Chorus

We celebrate the call to new Life,

to become more than we are;

to move into the world, to transform,

to shape it for the workings of our God.

The ugly force of hate stands tall,

and builds up walls in jest.

We’ll build the bridge of love and concern,

and lay the giant to rest.

Chorus

The hungry spirit of faith stands strong,

filled with energy.

We’ll build a bridge of love and concern,

and set the faithful free.

Chorus

We Share Celebrations, Concerns, and Gifts

Music for Meditation and Thinking of You Cards

Shared by Tanner Bayles

During the Thinking of You today, you may also write notes to veterans recognizing their service. The "Thank You" cards in the bulletins will be delivered to MANA House, Catholic Charities’ transitional housing for veterans. MANA House also helps with education, employment, and other resources for veterans.

Invitation to Giving "The World Dances" by Christine Sine

Led by Marilyn Rampley

One: The world dances in wild abandon to the rhythms of God.

All: Let us listen with our ears, and look with our eyes, to its holy song.

One: It is so ordinary, so simple, yet so powerful, this seeking after God.

All: Every daily act, every jagged rock, cries out God’s voice, begging to be listened to, to be watched, handled and examined.

One: All is a gift from God.

All: Let us receive and let us give with wonder and awe.

In our offerings, we share not only measurable treasures of time, talents, and resources, we radically commit ourselves to sharing immeasurable gifts of forgiveness, grace, compassion, acceptance, and loving concern with each other and with ourselves.

In response to our celebrations and the deep goodness of life, our offerings for the celebration of life, in this place and beyond, shall now be received.

We Go Forth to Love and Serve

*Song for Going Forth Free to be You and Me

Shared by Tanner Bayles

There’s a land that I see where the children are free.

And I say it ain’t far to this land from where we are.

Take my hand, come with me where the children are free

Come with me, take my hand, and we’ll live…

Chorus

In a land where the river runs free.

In a land through the green country.

In a land to a shining sea.

In a land where the horses run free.

And you and me are free to be, you and me.

I see a land, bright and clear and the time’s comin’ near

When we’ll live in this land, you and me, hand in hand.

Take my hand, come along, lend your voice to my song.

Come along, take my hand, sing a song...

Chorus

Benediction

Led by Tim Tutt

One: All of creation is blessed!

All: These are the times!

One: Friends, you are blessed!

All: We are the people!

One: God be with you!

All: And also with you!

One: Amen.

All: Amen.
