Welcome and Announcements

Pastor Ken

Opening Words

Led by Pastor Ken

One: Who are we and what are we called to do?

All:  To create a world where every person is radically

affirmed and barriers between people become

bridges of inclusion, justice, and spirituality.

Call to Worship

Led by Susan Wadell

One:       Like a pebble in a pond,

Many:    God tosses Shadow Rock into the sea of

history.

One:       Like a nugget in a puddle,

Many: God tosses Shadow Rock into the ocean of

need.

One: Like a rock jutting out of the middle of a lake,

Many: God tosses Shadow Rock into chaotic waters

to add ripples of a new order of peace, justice

and love.

One: Like ripples on a pond, we are a part of the ever-

expanding circle of care and justice for the sake of

the world. Let us celebrate God!

All:  Let us celebrate life!

Our opening songs come from the Ecumenical Institute which provided the inspiration for Rev. Bill Smith to found a church based on a unique expression of Christian faith.

Opening Songs of Our Heritage ~

Please stand if comfortably able

Opening Songs Of Our Heritage  When I’m On My Journey

1. When I’m on my journey there is no one there but me,

When I’m on my journey there is no one there but me,

When I’m on my journey there is no one there but me,

Lord, I know there is no one there but me.

2. When I’m on my journey I am one with family . . .

3. When I’m on my journey spirit colleagues there will be . .

4. When I’m on my journey I will bend all history . . .

We of the Spirit (Tune: Meadowlands)

Text by Ecumenical Institute

1. We of the spirit march on to build a new tomorrow,

Ours is the will to will one thing and only,

Ours is the joy, the godly sorrow.

2. We of the spirit are made of flesh and blood and iron,

Ours is the war that’s never won, but winning

Ours is the mission never done.

3. We of the spirit are dif’rent races, dif’rent colors,

Ours is the task to build the earth, the future,

Our lives are given for each other.

4. We of the spirit fight on and hold the common vision.

Ours is not wealth nor status nor vainglory,

Ours is not discord nor division.

5. We of the spirit march on to build a new tomorrow,

Ours is the will to will one thing and only,

Ours is the joy, the godly sorrow.

Shadow Rock Covenant

Led by Susan Wadell

We covenant one with another to be that sensitive and responsive part of human society which perceives and responds to God’s newest thrust in the midst of history. The uniqueness and greatness of every life is radically affirmed. Our task together demands a comprehensive view of life, always pointed intentionally to the future. Our life together involves us individually and corporately in study and worship, always maintaining a proper balance between proclamation of the Word about life with the deeds which make life good. Those activities which eliminate age barriers, cut across religious dogma, reduce cultural parochialisms, and engage secular people with life’s ultimate possibilities will be worthy of our best efforts.

Celebrations and Celebration Song

This is our time to share the celebrations of our lives: birthdays,

anniversaries, words of kindness and works of peace and justice.

Celebrate your heart and your spirit,

Celebrate your life while you live it.

Even when it’s hard to do,

Celebrate the best of you.

Celebrate your dreams and your visions,

Celebrate the love you’ve been given.

Cherish all that you’ve been through,

Celebrate the best of you.

Word About Life

Shared by Rev. Bill Smith

Bill Smith was the founding pastor of Shadow Rock UCC. The message today is a video of Bill giving his last sermon at Shadow Rock on the Sunday of his retirement. We share it on the occasion of our 50th Anniversary year as a way to remind us of his vision, Shadow Rock’s identity, and our shared destiny.

Invitation to Give

One: The landscape of life is always near:

a daffodil in bloom, a single green leaf,

and the red flash of a cardinal.

Common, yet unexpected places.

All: May we too be a people of adventure and life,

grace-filled companions, offering courage, hope,

and ourselves in unexpected places.

Dedication of Our Offerings

Led by Susan Wadell

One: By our smallest actions, we become part of a bigger

world. The giving can be an expression of the good

spirit of generosity and caring.

All: May we and these gifts be used to build a

foundation of inclusion, justice and

spirituality. Amen.

Words For Mission

Led by Pastor Ken

One: With our time together our spirits feel lighter.

All:    The cares of the world are still out there.

One: It can feel like a mountain on our hearts and

shoulders.

All: Today, at least for a while, the cares of the world

will be more like a paperweight on a stack of

love letters from God.

One:  These are the times!

All: We are the people!

One: All of Creation is blessed!

All: May we love all and serve all!

One: May God be with you.

All: And also with you.

One: Amen

All: Amen.

Sending Forth Song ~ Let There Be Peace On Earth

Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me.

Let there be peace on earth,

the peace that was meant to be.

With God, our Creator, family all are we,

Let us walk with each other in perfect harmony.

Let peace begin with me, let this be the moment now.

With every step I take, let this be my joyous vow:

To take each moment and live each moment in peace

eternally!

Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me.

Sermon Reboot is ON for today. Please stay on Zoom and we will convene in 5-10 minutes. This is a time to talk about the message and explore together using the ORID Art Form Conversation methodology. What is ORID? It stands for Observation, Reflection, Interpretation, and Decision. You will get the hang of it.
