Prelude ~

Welcome and Announcements

Shared by Pastor Ken

Opening Words

Led by Pastor Ken

One: Who are we and what are we called to do?

All: We are the sensitive and responsive ones called

to create a world where every person is radically

affirmed and barriers between people become

bridges of inclusion, justice, and spirituality.

Call to Worship

Led by Sue Stuart

One: We come to worship because we long for mercy.

All: We long for community. We long for God.

One: We come to worship because we need a good

word.

All: We need connection. We need moral

reminders.

One: We come to worship because we are in between:

All: hope and grief, faith and doubt, joy and

longing, curiosity and conviction.

Singing Our Faith ~ For the Beauty of the Earth

1. For the beauty of the earth,

For the glory of the skies,

For the love which from our birth

Over and around us lies,

Lord of all, to Thee we raise

This our hymn of grateful praise.

2. For the wonder of each hour

Of the day and of the night,

Hill and vale and tree and flower,

Sun and moon and stars of light,

Lord of all, to Thee we raise

This our hymn of grateful praise.

3. For the joy of ear and eye,

For the heart and mind’s delight,

For the mystic harmony

Linking sense to sound and

sight,

Lord of all, to Thee we raise

This our hymn of grateful praise.

Word About Life Luke ~ 19:1-10

Shared by Pastor Ken

He entered Jericho and was passing through it. A man was

there named Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and

was rich. He was trying to see who Jesus was, but on

account of the crowd, he could not, because he was short

in stature. So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore tree to

see him because he was going to pass that way. When

Jesus came to the place, he looked up and said to him,

‘Zacchaeus, hurry and come down, for I must stay at your

house today.’ So, he hurried down and was happy to

welcome him. All who saw it began to grumble and said, ‘He

has gone to be the guest of one who is a sinner.’

Zacchaeus stood there and said to the Lord, ‘Look, half of my possessions, Lord, I will give to the poor; and if I have defrauded anyone of anything, I will pay back four times as much.’

Then Jesus said to him, ‘Today salvation has come to this house because he too is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek out and to save the lost.’

Moment of Silence and Meditation

Call to Confession

Led by Sue Stuart

Loving God,

Week after week we return to this space,

because we long to see you.

We are like Zacchaeus, who climbed a tree to get a peek as you walked by.

We to this place to be with each other to get a peek

of your goodness,

of your joy,

of your light.

So, speak to us through our celebrations, our sharing of bread and cup, and through our ancient wisdom tradition.

Let us get a peek of the love that lingers here.

Gratefully we pray, Amen.

Celebrations

Led by Pastor Ken

At this time, we share moments from our lives: birthdays,

anniversaries, and words of peace and justice. We celebrate

sorrows and grief as part of our comprehensive view of life.

Give voice to goodness!

Music for Thinking of You Cards

In the pew racks are cards with the title “Thinking Of You”.

Please use these cards to write a note to someone so they

know they are remembered and cared for. Put the card in

the offering plate when it comes by and the church office

will forward the cards to the person addressed in the card.

This was one of the elements of our time together that you

lifted up as important for all of us. Thank you!

Celebration of the One Table

The Table of Inclusion, Justice, and Spirituality

(The servers are invited to take their places. Zoomers are invited to get bread and juice from their cupboards.)

Prayer of Consecration and Invitation

Led by Sue Stuart

Spirit that created the world and still holds it together, the

invitation to your table is simple. You lean in close. You say

our name. With joy in your voice, you invite us to eat, drink,

and share. But the noise of this world is distracting; our

devices call out to us even at this table, and we are afraid

of the world and afraid we might miss something, so we get

stuck somewhere between our heads and our hearts. We

get stuck somewhere between our intent and our action.

So, for this moment of sharing, speak to us again. Tell us

the story of love and hope. Invite us to follow. Speak once

more of the good news of inclusion, justice, and intimacy

with your Spirit, that will not leave us alone. Speak to us

again, invite us to this table by saying our name, for we are

listening. Amen.

Sharing the Cup and Bread

(Please come forward because all are welcome.

All of our bread is gluten-free. Our offering for the

communion baskets is dedicated to Immigration

Justice ministries.)

Communion Hymn ~ One Bread, One Body

by John Foley

One bread, one body, one Lord of all,

One cup of blessing which we bless.

And we, though many throughout the earth,

We are one body in this one Lord.

Gentile or Jew, servant or free,

Woman or man no more. Chorus

Many the gifts, many the works,

One in the Lord of all. Chorus

Grain for the fields, scattered and grown,

Gathered to one, for all. Chorus

Prayer of Thanks

(Those of you who join us through Zoom or YouTube are invited to stand and join in the motions of the song)

1. I’ve got peace like a river, I’ve got peace like a river,

I’ve got peace like a river in my soul. (Repeat)

2. I’ve got love like an ocean, I’ve got love like an ocean,

I’ve got love like an ocean in my soul. (Repeat)

3. I’ve got joy like a fountain, I’ve got joy like a fountain,

I’ve got joy like a fountain in my soul. (Repeat)

4. I’ve got peace like a river, I’ve got love like an ocean,

I’ve got joy like a fountain in my soul. (Repeat)

Invitation to Give As A Prayer

Led by Sue Stuart

In response to our celebrations and the deep goodness of life, our offerings for the celebration of life, in this place and beyond, shall now be received.

God of Grace, We long to do the “right” thing. We long to make the “right” choice. We long to stand on the “right” side of the dividing line. In our earnestness, we sometimes miss the sacred right in front of us. In our earnestness, we sometimes miss opportunities to show love. Show us how to hold our heart’s desire for perfection loosely. Show us how to lead with grace and love, over anything else. For even more than our desire to be right, we desire to be generous and close to you. Show us the way through our sharing. Amen.

Invitation to Give

One: If God is a painter,

All: let us be the brush.

One: If God is a musician,

All: let us be the song.

One: God is an architect,

All: let us be the tools.

One: Let us be the hands.

All: Let us be the builders.

One: But if God is a shepherd, who never stops

seeking,

All: let us be willing to be found, no matter how lost we feel.

One: Our God is never far away.

All: Our offering is for sustaining the work that

makes life good for all people. Amen.

Words for Mission

Led by Sue Stuart

One: As you prepare to leave this sacred space

pack away a piece of this church in your

heart. Wrap it carefully like a precious gem.

Carry it with you through the joys and

sorrows of your days...

Let its gentle glow strengthen you, warm

you, remind you of all that is good and true

until you gather here again in this place of

love. These are the times!

All: We are the people!

One: All of Creation is blessed!

All: May we love all and serve all!

One: God be with you

All: And also with you.

One: Amen.

All: Amen!

Sending Forth Song ~ Trees of the Field

You shall go out with joy and be led forth with peace;

The mountains and the hills will break forth before you.

There’ll be shouts of joy, and all the trees of the field

will clap, will clap their hands.

And all the trees of the field will clap their hands, (clap, clap)

The trees of the field will clap their hands, (clap, clap)

The trees of the field will clap their hands (clap, clap)

While you go out with joy! (Repeat faster)

Sermon Reboot is ON for today.

This is a time to talk about the message and explore together using the ORID Art Form Conversation methodology. What is ORID? It stands for Observation, Reflection, Interpretation, and Decision. You will get the hang of it.
