Memorial Day Weekend

On this Memorial Day, we honor those who have given their lives in the service of our country. Let their sacrifice be a call to remember, not only them, but also the One whose justice and mercy extend to the ends of the earth and embrace all therein.

every person is radically affirmed

and barriers between people become

bridges of inclusion, justice, and

spirituality.

Entry into Spiritual Community

Liturgist: Chelsea Gaberdiel

One: As we gather in this sacred place let us open

our minds to the challenge of reason,

All: We open our hearts to the healing of love,

One: Let us open our lives to the calling of conscience, and our souls open to the comfort of joy.

All: Astonished by the miracle of life, grateful for the gift of fellowship, and confident in the power of a living faith, we celebrate this time together.

Singing Our Faith ~ Mine Eyes Have Seen the Glory

by Julia Ward Howe

1. Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord,

Who is trampling out the vintage

where the grapes of wrath are stored,

And has loosed the fateful lightning of a terrible swift sword;

God’s truth is marching on.

Chorus:

Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!

Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!

Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!

God’s truth is marching on.

2. I have seen God in the watchfires of a hundred circling camps,

Where they built a sacred altar in the evening dews and damps;

I can read the righteous sentence by the dim and flaring lamps;

God’s day is marching on.

Chorus

3. God has sounded forth the trumpet that shall never call retreat;

And is sifting out the hearts of all before the judgement seat;

O be swift my soul to answer and be jubilant my feet!

Our God is marching on.

Chorus

4. In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea,

With a glory in his bosom that transfigures you and me;

As he died to make us holy, we will live to make us free;

While God is marching on.

Chorus:

Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!

Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!

Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!

God’s truth is marching on.

Opening Prayer

Prayers of the People

Liturgist: Chelsea Gaberdiel

One: We pray that we may learn to love one another.

All: God, hear our prayer.

One: We remember those who have loved us enough

to lay down their lives for us and pray that they

may rest in peace.

All: God, hear our prayer.

One: We pray that you would comfort all those who

mourn the loss in war of a loved one.

All: God, hear our prayer.

One: We pray that we may never take the freedoms we have for granted and will share them with others.

All: God, hear our prayer.

One: We pray that you will remove greed, envy,

lust for power and control from our hearts

and the hearts of all people.

All: God, hear our prayer.

One: We pray that such courage and sacrifice will be a part of all of us as we work to root out racism, sexism, and violence from our lives, our communities, our nation, and our world.

All: God, hear our prayer.

One: We pray that we may learn to share the world’s resources with all and not hoard them for ourselves.

All: God, hear our prayer.

One: We pray that we may learn to wage peace so that no more people will die in war.

All: God, hear our prayer. Amen.

Music for Thinking of You Cards

Shared by Christine Kyhn Just A Closer Walk With Thee

arr. Fred Bock

In the pew racks are cards with the title “Thinking Of You”. Please use these cards to write a note to someone so they know they are remembered and cared for. Put the card in the offering plate when it comes by and the church office will forward the cards to the person addressed in the card. This was one of the elements of our time together that you lifted up as important for all of us.

Thank you!

Word About Life~ Blind Patriotism and Mature Patriotism

Based on 2 Chronicles 7:12-14

Then the Lord appeared to Solomon in the night and said to him: ‘I have heard your prayer, and have chosen this place for myself as a house of sacrifice. When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or command the locust to devour the land, or send pestilence among my people, if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, pray, seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.

Words for Mission

Led by Chelsea Gaberdiel

One: Walk well your journey in peace and in justice.

May you be wrapped in the shawl of God's

loving.

May you be cherished.

May you be blessed... this day, and forever.

These are the times!

All: We are the people!

One: All of Creation is blessed!

All: May we love all and serve all!

One: God be with you

All: And also with you.

One: Amen.

All: Amen!

Sending Forth Song ~ This Land is Your Land

by Woody Guthrie

This land is your land. This land is my land,

From California to the New York Island,

From the Redwood Forest to the Gulf Stream

waters.

This land is made for you and me.

1. As I was walking that ribbon of highway,

I saw above me that endless skyway.

I saw below me that golden valley.

This land was made for you and me.

2. I roamed and rambled, and I followed my footsteps

To the sparkling sands of her diamond deserts,

And all around me a voice was sounding,

This land was made for you and me.

Chorus

3. There was a big high wall there that tried to

stop me

Sign was painted, said, "Private Property"

But on the back side, it didn't say nothing

This land was made for you and me.

4. When the sun came shining, and I was strolling

And the wheat fields waving, and the dust clouds rolling,

A voice was chanting as the fog was lifting,

This land was made for you and me.

Chorus

5. In the shadow of the steeple;

By the relief office I seen my people;

As they stood there hungry, I stood there asking,

Is this land made for you and me?

6. Nobody living can ever stop me,

As I go walking that freedom highway;

Nobody living can ever make me turn back

This land was made for you and me.

Chorus

Sermon Reboot is OFF for today.
