Welcome and Announcements

Opening Words

Shared by Lois Beberniss

One: Who are we and what are we called to do?

All: We are the sensitive and responsive ones called to create a world where every person is radically affirmed and barriers between people become

bridges of inclusion, justice, and spirituality.

Entry Into Spiritual Community

Led by Judy Schwiebert

One: Celebrate a new day dawning,

All: sunrise of a golden morn;

One: Christ Sophia dwells among us,

All: glorious visions now are born,

One: Equal partners ‘round the table,

All: we make dreams reality;

One: Calling out our gifts we nurture

All: hope beyond all we can see.

Singing Our Faith ~ Family Tree

Before the days of Jello

Lived a prehistoric fellow

Who loved a maid and courted her

Beneath the banyan tree.

And they had lots of children

And their children all had children

And they kept on having children until

One of them had me.

We're a fam'ly and we're a tree.

Our roots go deep down in history

From my great, great granddaddy

Reaching up to me.

We're a green and growing fam'ly tree.

We're a green and growing fam'ly.

My grandpa came from Russia,

My grandma came from Prussia.

They met in Nova Scotia,

Had my dad in Tennessee.

Then they moved to Yokahama

Where daddy met my mama,

Her dad's from Alabama

And her mom's part Cherokee.

Chorus

One fine day I may go

To Tiera del Fuego,

Perhaps I'll meet my wife there and

We'll move to Timbuktoo.

And our kid will be bilingual,

And though she may stay single,

She could of course co-mingle

With the king of Kathmandu.

Chorus

The folks in Madagascar

Aren't the same as in Alakar.

They have different foods, different moods and

Different colored skin.

You may have a different name but

Underneath we're much the same,

You're probably my cousin and

The whole world is my kin... 'cause

We're a fam'ly and we're a tree.

Our roots go deep down in history

From my great, great granddaddy

Reaching up to me.

We're a green and growing fam'ly tree.

We're a green and growing fam'ly.

Music for Thinking of You Cards ~

Shared by Tanner Bayles

In the pew racks are cards with the title “Thinking Of You”. Please use these cards to write a note to someone so they know they are remembered and cared for. Put the card in the offering plate when it comes by, and the church office will forward the cards to the person addressed on the card. This was one of the elements of our time together that you lifted up as important for all of us.

Thank you!

Bread, Wine and Invitation to Share

Judy: It is our custom to have an open table where all

people are invited to share bread and wine. We

believe this is a continuation of the radical table

practice of Jesus.

All: His invitation proclaimed the vision of love,

justice and peace of God for all people.

Ken: The larger story of table fellowship includes the

reversal of social roles so as to make known the

height, depth and inclusiveness of God’s love.

All: We show our gratitude for all of life by

inviting all people to the Table of Life!

Judy: And now let the weak say,

'I am strong!’

All: I AM STRONG!

Ken: Let the poor say,

‘I am rich!’

All: I AM RICH!

Judy: The bread and wine are not for us alone, but are

symbols of a universal message of hope that

challenges the worldviews that feed oppression

and separation.

All: May our sisters and brothers in all lands join

us in lifting the bread of life and the cup of

passion.

Ken: Today we ritualize and celebrate the inclusive

table practices of Jesus.

All: May this holy meal empower each of us to

become partners in the Great Work of

healing all people, all nations, and all the

planet.

Communion Prayer

Led by Judy Schwiebert

Be present with us now, Enfolding God, as we share this

holy bread and cup. Let your Spirit of Love brood among

us... and upon and through this bread and cup bless us with

a desire to give thanks for the gifts of life and hear the

sacred stories of our lives.

Bless us with a sharpened awareness of your presence.

Bless us with deep compassion.

Bless us with the patience and daring of the mystics.

All: Abide with us always.

Abide with us in our daily work.

Abide with us when we rest.

Abide with us in our journeying.

Abide with us at all times and through

eternity.

(Please come forward because all are welcome. All of our

bread is gluten-free. Our offering for the communion

baskets is dedicated to our national Neighbors In Need

offering.)

Communion Music ~ Walls Mark Our Bound’ries

by Ruth C. Duck and Jim Strethdee

1. Walls mark our bound’ries and keep us apart;

Walls keep the world from our eyes and our heart.

Tables are round, making room for one more,

Welcoming friends we had not known before.

Chorus

So build us a table and tear down the wall!

Christ is our host. There is room for us all!

2. Walls make us sure who is in and who’s out

Walls keep us safe from all question and doubt,

But at a table in open exchange

New ties are formed as our lives rearrange.

Chorus

3. Once we were strangers, divided, alone.

Hate and distrust built a wall stone by stone.

Now at a table the bread that we share.

Joins us to Christ in a circle of care.

Chorus

Invitation to Give ~

Shared by Judy Scwiebert

One: Let the world be changed,

All: Let the rules be changed,

One: Let there be a place for everyone.

All: Bring God’s realm near,

One: Let all be welcome here,

All: And may there be for all a just share.

In our offerings, we share not only measurable treasures of time, talents, and resources, we radically commit ourselves to sharing immeasurable gifts of forgiveness, grace, compassion, acceptance, and loving concern with each other and with ourselves.

In response to our celebrations and the deep goodness of life, our offerings for the celebration of life, in this place and beyond, shall now be received.

Creativity God, the landscape of life and your presence is near: hikers on the mountain, chipmunks on the window sill, sun and shadow across the desert and the city. May we too be a people of adventure and life, offering courage and hope in unexpected ways and unexpected places. Amen.

Sending Forth Song ~ Weave, Weave

Words by Rosemary Crow

Chorus

Weave, weave, weave us together

Weave us together in unity and love.

Weave, weave, weave us together,

Weave us together, together in love.

1. We are many textures, we are many colors,

Each one diff’rent from the other.

But we are entwined with one another in one great

tapestry.

Chorus

2. We are diff’rent instruments playing our own melodies,

Each one tuning to a diff’rent key.

But we are all playing in harmony in one great

symphony.

Chorus

3. Moments ago we did not know our unity, only diversity.

Now the Christ in me greets the Christ in thee,

In one great family.

Chorus

Sermon Reboot is OFF for today.

This is a time to talk about the message and explore together using the ORID Art Form Conversation methodology. What is ORID? It stands for Observation, Reflection, Interpretation, and Decision. You will get the hang of it.
