Opening Words

One: Who are we and what are we called to do?

All: We are the sensitive and responsive

ones called to create a world where

every person is radically affirmed

and barriers between people become

bridges of inclusion, justice, and

spirituality.

Entry into Spiritual Community

Liturgist: Chelsea Gaberdiel

One:   Today, we will consider many aspects of                Sabbath Resting—

All:     How can we rest when there is so much to do?

One: There is a promise in the call to remember and observe Sabbath Resting.

All: We will find extra strength and zeal for the tasks ahead.

One: A day especially set aside for worship and celebration teaches us to carry the Spirit of joy and peace into our work.

All: We want to give ourselves a break from the emotional and intellectual demands of our lives.

One:   Sabbath Resting enables us to come back to those demands with fresh perspectives, creative insights, and renewed spirits.

All: Our Sabbath Time is coming!

Singing Our Faith ~ Circle of Friends

by Jim Manley

1. Come and sit together in a circle of friends

Be at home, be at peace, be at rest.

Come and sit together in a circle of friends,

Sitting in a circle is best.

Laugh (echo), cry (echo), live (echo), die (echo),

Hello (echo), goodbye (echo),

And God make us a circle of friends.

2. Somewhere it is evening and the woods fill up with

moonlight.

The creatures make their music and the word is on

the wind.

There’s a fire in the clearing and the voices you are

hearing

Are the singing of a circle of friends.

Chorus

3.Ceasing from our routine is a Sabbath in itself;

Stop our work, catch our breath, be at rest.

Renewal of our spirits gives us strength to do our best.

Keeping Sabbath with friends is best.

Chorus

Music for Thinking of You Cards

Shared by Tanner Bayles

In the pew racks are cards with the title “Thinking Of You”. Please use these cards to write a note to someone so they know they are remembered and cared for. Put the card in the offering plate when it comes by, and the church office will forward the cards to the person addressed on the card. This was one of the elements of our time together that you lifted up as important for all of us.

Thank you!

Invitation to Give

Shared by Chelsea Gaberdiel

In our offerings, we share not only measurable treasures of time, talents, and resources, we radically commit ourselves to sharing immeasurable gifts of forgiveness, grace, compassion, acceptance, and loving concern with each other and with ourselves.

In response to our celebrations and the deep goodness of life, our offerings for the celebration of life, in this place and beyond, shall now be received.

The Presentation and Dedication of Our    Offering

Led by Chelsea Gaberdiel

One: By our smallest actions, we become part of a bigger world. The smallest gift can be an

expression of the good spirit of generosity and caring.

All: May we and these gifts be used to build a foundation of inclusion, justice and spirituality. Amen.

Ringing the Chime Calling Us to Sacred Listening

Singing Our Faith         Find the Quiet Center

1. Come and find the quiet center in the crowded life we lead,

Find the room for hope to enter, find the frame where we are freed;

Clear the chaos and the clutter, clear our eyes, that we can see

All the things that really matter, be at peace, and simply be.

2. Silence is a friend who claims us, cools the heat and slows the pace,

God it is who speaks and names us, knows our being, touches base,

Making space within our thinking, lifting shades to show the sun,

Raising courage when we’re shrinking, finding scope for faith begun.

3. In the Spirit let us travel, open to each other’s pain,

Let our loves and fears unravel, celebrate the space we gain:

There’s a place for deepest dreaming,

there’s a time for heart to care,

In the Spirit’s lively scheming there is always room to spare!

Word About Life~

Mark 6:30-32

The apostles gathered around Jesus and reported to him all they had done and taught. Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, ‘Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.’ So they went away by themselves in a boat to a solitary place.

Words for Mission

Led by Chelsea Gaberdiel

One:   Where all life on earth is cherished, there opens for us another way to live.

All: Where a child may grow in safety,

where there's peace and shelter,

One: when we hold the fragile planet in our conscious care, when we see again as sacred all we are and share, we find rest.

All: May God’s breath stream within us.

One: These are the times!

All: We are the people!

One: All of Creation is blessed!

All: May we love all and serve all!

One: God be with you

All: And also with you.

One: Amen.

All: Amen!

Sending Forth Song ~ I’m Gonna Sing

2. I’m gonna shout...

3. I’m gonna cease . . .

4. I’m gonna rest. . .

Repeat the first verse!

This is a time to talk about the message and explore together using the ORID Art Form Conversation methodology. What is ORID? It stands for Observation, Reflection, Interpretation, and Decision. You will get the hang of it.
