GATHERING IN THE SPIRIT’S PRESENCE
Centering Affirmation: You are uniquely situated to bring light into the world. May you find courage this season to do the good that is yours to do. What ever good you do matters and makes a difference. May you see the ripples of your actions expand ever outward, touching lives and mending the fabric of our shared humanity.
Welcome and Announcements
Led by Pastor Ken
Opening Words
One: Who are we and what are we called to do?
All: We are the sensitive and responsive ones
called to create a world where every person
is radically affirmed and barriers between
people become bridges of inclusion, justice,
and spirituality.
Call to Worship
Led by The Gaberdiels
(Please stand in body, mind, or spirit)
One: “Teacher,” the crowd asked, “What should we do?”
All: If you have two shirts, give one away. Hold onto hope. Live like we belong to one another. Speak the truth. Look for God. Do the good that is yours to do.
One: It’s all that easy, and it’s all that hard. Let us worship our present and active God. In a weary and worn world, how
do we begin again? Where do we start?
All: Let us start small. Let us begin with what is right in front of us. Let us do the good that is ours to do, and let us do it with joy!
One: Yes, let us begin with joy. Today we light the candles of
hope, peace, and joy.
All: May these lights remind us of what could be. May
these lights inspire action. May the warmth of these
lights fill us with joy.
One: May it be so! Amen.
Singing Our Faith ~ O Come, O Come, Emmanuel
by Thomas Helmore
1. O come, O come, Emmanuel,
And ransom capƟve Israel,
That mourns in lonely exile here
UnƟl the Son of God appear.
Chorus
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel!
2. O come, thou Wisdom from on high,
And order all things, far and nigh;
To us the path of knowledge show,
And cause us in her ways to go.
Chorus
3. O come, Desire of naƟons bind
All peoples in one heart and mind;
Bid envy, strife and quarrels cease;
Fill the whole world with heaven’s peace.
Chorus
4. O come, thou Day-spring, come and cheer
Our spirits by thine advent here
Disperse the gloomy clouds of night
And death’s dark shadows put to flight.
Chorus
