Welcome and Announcements

Opening Words

Led by Pastor Ken

One: Who are we and what are we called to do?

All: We are the sensitive and responsive ones called

to create a world where every person is radically

affirmed and barriers between people become

bridges of inclusion, justice, and spirituality.

Call to Worship

Led by Linda Johnston

One: On this day, Jesus marched

All: in between the city walls

and the Temple, in

between joyful Hosannas

and doubtful whispers, in

between oppressive

poverty and greedy

power, in between

rampant fear and hope

unfurled.

One: On this day, Jesus marched

All: in between what had been and what could be.

One: So may we meet Christ in that liminal space. May

we lay down our coats in welcome in that messy

middle stuff of life.

Word About Life Luke ~ 19:29-40

Shared by Pastor Ken

When he had come near Bethphage and Bethany, at the

place called the Mount of Olives, he sent two of the disciples,

saying, ‘Go into the village ahead of you, and as you enter it,

you will find tied there a colt that has never been ridden. Untie it and bring it here. If anyone asks you, 'Why are you untying it?' just say this: 'The Lord needs it.”’ So those who were sent departed and found it as he had told them. As they were untying the colt, its owners asked them, ‘Why are you untying the colt?’ They said, ‘The Lord needs it.’ Then they brought it to Jesus; and after throwing their cloaks on the colt, they set Jesus on it. As he rode along, people kept spreading their cloaks on the road. As he was now approaching the path down from the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to praise God joyfully with a loud voice for all the deeds of power that they had seen, saying,

‘Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!

Peace in heaven, and glory in the highest heaven!’

Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, ‘Teacher,

order your disciples to stop.’ He answered, ‘I tell you, if these

were silent, the stones would shout out.’

Moment of Silence and Meditation

Affirmation of Faith

Led by Linda Johnson

We believe that many years ago, a peaceful parade wove its way through the streets of Jerusalem. We believe that on that day, the people cried out, longing and praying for a better world. We believe that these longings came from a place of deep hope, and we believe that hope cannot be silenced. So we listen for the Spirit. We sing Hosanna. We pay attention. For in between the silence and the song, we believe the Spirit is speaking. Amen.

Celebrations

Led by Pastor Ken

At this time, we share moments from our lives: birthdays,

anniversaries, and words of peace and justice. We celebrate

sorrows and grief as part of our comprehensive view of life.

Give voice to goodness!

Music for Thinking of You Cards

In the pew racks are cards with the title “Thinking Of You”.

Please use these cards to write a note to someone so they

know they are remembered and cared for. Put the card in

the offering plate when it comes by and the church office

will forward the cards to the person addressed in the card.

This was one of the elements of our time together that you

lifted up as important for all of us. Thank you!

Invitation to Give

Led by Linda Johnston

In response to our celebrations and the deep goodness of life, our offerings for the celebration of life, in this place and beyond, shall now be received.

One: If God is a painter,

All: let us be the brush.

One: If God is a musician,

All: let us be the song.

One: God is an architect,

All: let us be the tools.

One: Let us be the hands.

All: Let us be the builders.

One: But if God is a shepherd, who never stops

seeking,

All: let us be willing to be found, no matter how lost we feel.

One: Our God is never far away.

All: Our offering is for sustaining the work that

makes life good for all people. Amen.

Words for Mission

Led by Linda Johnston

One: As you leave this place, may you find God in the

messy middle things of life. May you know that the

world is bigger than two sides. May you trust that

you are made in the image of God, and therefore,

you contain multitudes. So may you move through

this world with an open heart, with a curious mind,

and with the confidence that you do not go alone.

God is with you in the mountains, in the valleys,

and everywhere in between. These are the times!

All: We are the people!

One: All of Creation is blessed!

All: May we love all and serve all!

One: God be with you

All: And also with you.

One: Amen.

All: Amen!

Sending Forth Song ~ Hosanna, Hallelujah!

Chorus

Hosanna, hallelujah! Sing we loud and clear.

Hosanna, hallelujah! Jesus Christ is near.

With ancient psalms and new-grown palms

Praise him on his way.

Hosanna, hallelujah! Christ our Lord is here.

This day in spring, the streets will ring

With voices sweet and lyrical.

To greet our Lord, the one adored,

His very life a miracle.

Chorus

King David’s Son now rides upon

A mule, of beasts the lowliest.

Amidst the throng, it bears along.

Of all of us, the holiest.

Chorus

Sermon Reboot is ON for today.

This is a time to talk about the message and explore together using the ORID Art Form Conversation methodology. What is ORID? It stands for Observation, Reflection, Interpretation, and Decision. You will get the hang of it.
