Runoff Today: Please Join Me in Voting Rick Jackson for Governor

Dear Friends,

The weight of your trust is not one I carry lightly.

For the last eight legislative sessions, you have entrusted me to promote our interests in Atlanta. In that time, I’ve come to believe something simple about the work: government is not the solution to our problems. Government is there to empower people to lift themselves up, mostly by getting out of the way. What we do decide is worth doing, we should do extraordinarily well. Bureaucrats aren’t there to be barriers, they’re there to be public servants. And politicians aren’t there to promote themselves, they’re there to make sure government is accountable to you and working for you.

That belief is exactly why I’m asking you to vote for Rick Jackson.

Throughout this primary, I have seen the heart of Rick Jackson. It’s a heart shaped by humble beginnings, growing up in one of Georgia’s toughest government housing projects with a single mom who struggled with addiction. Many of us have known hardship in our own lives. Rick understands the challenges facing Georgia families because he has lived them, and he built a successful business career from those beginnings. When President Trump needed an American company to produce medically vital supplies, Rick stepped up. When Governor Kemp called on him to respond to the extreme nursing shortage during COVID, Rick put Georgia first. There’s not a doubt in my mind he’ll keep putting Georgia, and putting us, first if we send him to the Governor’s office.

Let me be plain: I’m not supporting Rick because I ever thought it was the politically expedient thing to do. I can’t do my job for you without a good person in the Governor’s office working for all Georgians. So I’m asking you, with all sincerity, to consider voting for Rick.

The nature of a runoff is that turnout is low. Please make sure Camden & Glynn are well represented. If you need information on how to vote today before 7:00 PM, don’t hesitate to reach out to me.

Special Legislative Session: Securing Elections

This Wednesday, June 17, the General Assembly will officially reconvene in Atlanta for a Special Legislative Session. As outlined in the Governor’s proclamation, our first and primary obligation during this session is safeguarding the stability of our state election system.

  • State Election System Deadline: Lawmakers will address immediate technology and administration guidelines ahead of a critical July 1 statutory deadline regarding ballot tabulation. This action ensures that upcoming local and special elections move forward with absolute administrative clarity, security, and precision.

  • Revising District Boundaries: Additionally, the scope of the executive order authorizes the General Assembly to begin redrawing state legislative and congressional district boundaries. This process comes in direct response to the recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling (Louisiana v. Callais), which significantly revised federal restrictions on how political districts are formatted. I remain committed to ensuring our communities are represented through districts that are cohesive and reflective of our people.

This landmark judicial clarity provides a milestone for our state. It allows us to move forward with updating Georgia's map boundaries for future cycles under a clearer, more balanced legal standard that respects traditional communities of interest and protects the integrity of our process, removing barriers that other states never had to begin with.

Property Tax Relief: Share Your Voice

As I continue to work with Local and Legislative colleagues to find tools in providing kitchen table tax relief, please take a quick moment to complete our Community Tax Survey if you haven't already. As the legislative session kicks off this Wednesday, your direct feedback on local property and sales tax structures is invaluable in ensuring our community's voice is accurately represented on the House floor.

Thank you for staying engaged and for the continued privilege of serving our community. If you have questions about these updates or need assistance with a state agency, please do not hesitate to reach out to our office.
