Networking Success in the Twin Cities!

Dr. Ronda Farah recently hosted a successful SOCS Regional Networking & Educational Symposium at the University of Minnesota Campus Club in Minneapolis.

More than fifty attendees from the Greater Minneapolis-St. Paul area gathered for this dynamic event, including University of Minnesota faculty, residents, and medical students. The enriching program featured networking, dinner and a fascinating presentation by Tarannum Jaleel, MD, Assistant Professor of Dermatology, Duke University, on “Disparities in Hidradenitis Suppurativa: Understanding the Impact on Different Populations.“

We extend special thanks to Drs. Farah and Jaleel and appreciation to Pfizer for their longtime support of the Regional Networking & Educational Symposia series.

SOCS Foundation Recognizes National Make-a-Will Month in August!

In recognition of National Make-a-Will-Month in August, the SOCS Foundation would like to raise awareness with some interesting facts.

If you don’t yet have a will in place, you’re not alone. According to the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP), nationally, only 27% of 25- to 54-year-olds have a will, 45% of people over 55 have a will, and 81% of people over 72 have a will.

It is never too early to have a will written. If you already have a will and have made the generous decision to include a gift to the SOCS Foundation, please click here to let us know so we can thank you!

7 Facts about Wills:

  1. Wills are generally the easiest way to make your wishes known and leave your assets to family and/or organizations of your choosing.
  2. They are a fantastic vehicle to help you leave a legacy and continue giving to philanthropic organizations about which you are passionate.
  3. While we don’t endorse any one service, there are services that offer wills and templates for very low-cost if one wants to put a simple will in place.
  4. Wills are great ways to name guardians for children, caretakers for beloved family pets, and digital assets.
  5. Wills are one of the best ways to avoid probate and expensive legal processes.
  6. The average cost of a will nationally is $500-$1,200 depending on the amount of legal work that needs to be done by your estate attorney. Many experts recommend hiring an experienced estate attorney and most people find this saves them money.
  7. Learn more about the facts and myths around wills by seeking expert advice!

Whether you are just starting as a student, in your first position in dermatology, thriving in mid-career or wrapping up a long and successful run as a dermatologist, if you don’t yet have a will, we recommend meeting with an estate attorney.
