February 1, 2024

February has arrived with a swirl of activities ahead including basketball, wrestling, Valentine's parties, winter break, Grandparents' Day practice, and EXPLORE Week. Good luck to our varsity wrestling team competing in the GIAA state tournament today and tomorrow. Be sure to check out all of our news in this week's Westfield Weekly!

We are excited to offer EXPLORE Week for our Middle and Upper School students next week, February 5 - 9. Students will be participating in a variety of enrichment classes from art, board games, grilling, and yoga/pilates to pickleball, CPR, relaxation, and more! Please note:

  • Middle and Upper School students will not be required to wear Wednesday assembly dress on Wednesday, February 7th during Explore Week
  • If you need to check your child out for an appointment during Explore Week, you will need to check him/her out BEFORE 2 pm as students will be in Explore classes scattered throughout campus starting at 2 pm.

Gentle Reminder about Illness

Unfortunately, this is also the time of year where we are seeing an increase in the number of students experiencing illness. Please be reminded of our school illness policy: Students with symptoms including fever, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea, should not return to school until they have fully recovered and are symptom-free for 24 hours.

If you need to let the school know that your child is not well or if you need to check your child out during the school day for an appointment, please call the main number (Administration Office) at 478-987-0547. We ask that you do not text or email teachers or staff regarding check outs, changes in transportation, etc. A text or email may not be seen in time or a teacher or staff member may not be on campus; however, phone calls to the Administration Office are always answered during the school day. The Administration Office will coordinate with your child's teacher and/or Rikki Cottle, school nurse, as needed. We appreciate your understanding and support.

Will the Groundhog see his shadow? Kindergarten students in Mrs. Tiffany Paris and Mrs. Shelli Goodman's class are writing their predictions as to whether or not they think he will see his shadow for six more weeks of winter...or if spring will be here soon! #groundhogday2024 #writingandart #westfieldkindergarten

Third graders in Mrs. Christy Grantham's English classes are designing "character crocs" that describe themselves and favorite characters in books they've recently read. The students identified and wrote about personality traits and characteristics reflected in themselves and their favorite book characters. Then, they designed a pair of crocs with charms that depict these traits and characteristics. What a fun and creative way to do a book report! #handsonlearning #artandreading #charactercrocs #educationofmindandheart

Take a sneak peek into our Pre-K and Kindergarten day! From play time to painting to music, writing, and reading, our youngest students receive a strong foundation to help them learn and grow. Applications for the 2024-2025 school year are being accepted, and we have limited space available in Pre K and Kindergarten for the upcoming school year. Please contact our Admissions Office at 478-987-0547 for more information. #DiscoverWestfield #educationofmindandheart

AP English Language & Composition students in Mrs. Robin Leonard’s classes are working in groups to discuss multiple choice reading and writing passages, analyzing tone, author’s purpose, and rhetorical choices. #collaborativelearning #APLang #educationofmindandheart

Art III students are taking on a new design/build project! They are working with their teacher Mrs. DJ Blalock and Upper School principal Mr. Jarrod Lewis to build new sideline tables to be used for athletic training services at soccer and football games. #designbuildart #handsonlearning

Our Upper School Green Team is growing herbs and vegetables thanks to a Tower Garden growing system. The Tower Garden grows plants with water and liquid nutrients, instead of dirt. The Tower Garden growing system uses 98 percent less water than traditional growing, helping plants grow faster and maintain more nutrients. The system was made possible by a grant from AgGeorgia Farm Credit. Thank you, Ag Georgia! We look forward to eating these herbs and vegetables in our cafeteria this spring! #handsonlearning #growinggreens

Our second grade "penguins" took the stage for a wonderful performance of Mr. Popper's Penguins, one of Westfield's favorite traditions. They learned many lines, poems, and songs which help them build self-confidence, communicate clearly, appreciate music, master memorization, and have fun with their classmates. Thank you to our second graders and their teachers for an outstanding job, and also to our second grade parent volunteers for decorating the stage and providing refreshments. #westfieldfinearts #westfieldonstage #westfieldsecondgrade #educationofmindandheart

Thank you to Tyler Moreland '14, youth pastor at Bonaire Church, for speaking to our Middle and Upper School students this week. Sharing the story of the disciple Simon Peter, Tyler encouraged students to ask themselves the question, "Do you truly love Jesus?" He reminded students that they must not only boldly claim Christ but also love him through their actions, words, and deeds. Thank you, Tyler, for your love for your alma mater and our students! #WednesdayWisdom #educationofmindandheart
