January 25, 2024

Today marked our 100th day of school, and we loved seeing our kindergarten and first grade students celebrating such a fun day! We also are looking forward to seeing our second graders will take the stage tomorrow morning to perform one of Westfield's most beloved productions, Mr. Popper's Penguins.

Our winter sports are going full speed, and spring sports are beginning to gear up. Students are busy in the classroom and beginning to prepare for upcoming events such as Grandparents' Day, spring literary competitions, and the production of Shrek the Musical!

Unfortunately, this is also the time of year where we are seeing an increase in the number of students experiencing illness. Please be reminded of our school illness policy: Students with symptoms including fever, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea, should not return to school until they have fully recovered and are symptom-free for 24 hours.

If you need to let the school know that your child is not well or if you need to check your child out during the school day for an appointment, please call the main number (Administration Office) at 478-987-0547. We ask that you do not text or email teachers or staff regarding check outs, changes in transportation, etc. A text or email may not be seen in time or a teacher or staff member may not be on campus; however, phone calls to the Administration Office are always answered during the school day. The Administration Office will coordinate with your child's teacher and/or Rikki Cottle, school nurse, as needed. We appreciate your understanding and support.

Hornets Have Heart!

Thank you for supporting our 2024 Red Out! Your generosity helped raised over $3,820 - a Red Out record amount for the American Heart Association! Westfield's Senior Beta Club sponsored its first Red Out in 2013 in honor of Tucker Moody '15 who suffered cardiac arrest while playing in a varsity basketball game. Because of the work and research of the AHA, Tucker underwent open heart surgery and fully recovered. Since that initial event, Westfield has raised nearly $30,000 for Red Out. Special thanks to our Senior Beta Club President Shahi Patel, club members, and club advisor Mrs. Olivia Hood for a successful Red Out. #RedOut2024 #whshasheart #servingothers

Our second graders are not only learning their lines and songs for tomorrow's performance of Mr. Popper’s Penguins. They are also learning all about penguins! Students read articles about the different types of penguins and recorded their research. Then, they measured the actual size and created life sized penguins! #westfieldsecondgrade

Our AR Prize Patrol is back at it again! Cullen Adkins, Matteo Padilla, Hunter Dahlstrom, and Charlotte Hillstrom have all earned 100+ AR Points. So proud of our Hornet readers! #acceleratedreader

After learning about WWI in Social Studies, fifth graders in Mrs. Shelley Greer’s social studies classes worked collaboratively to complete an escape room activity. Students had to read short passages about WWI, answer multiple choice questions, and then solve a challenging puzzle. Students worked on four different clues that helped them find the final code needed to “escape the room”. We love seeing these smart fifth graders at work! #collaborativelearning #westfieldfifthgrade #handsonlearning

Seventh grade students in Mrs. Leigh Ann Champion's life science classes are identifying the bones of the human skeletal system. #westfieldscience #handsonlearning #educationofmindandheart

Creative minds at work! Upper School Art II students in Mrs. DJ Blalock's class are creating drawings of mylar balloons in charcoal. #art #creativity #educationofmindandheart

Students in Mrs. Melissa Smith’s Chemistry class discovered how mass increases during a synthesis reaction when iron and oxygen produce iron oxide. Take a quick look at their lab in fast speed. #handsonlearning #Westfieldscience

Congratulations to 8th grader Mallory Fortson who was recognized as a Student of the Month by the Perry Rotary Club! We are Westfield proud! #buildingleaders

Thank you to Trevor McCullough, Student Pastor at Cross Point Perry and the Flint River FCA character coach for our varsity football team, for sharing God’s Word with our Middle and Upper School students. Trevor reminded our students of 1 John 1:5, understanding that our sin is darkness and of our need for confession and repentance. Aren’t we grateful that God is light and holiness and that He is faithful in loving and forgiving us! #Wednesdaywisdom

Thank you to our Upper School Praise Band for leading us in worship during this week’s Middle and Upper School assembly! #gratitude #Wednesdaywisdom #educationofmindandheart
