Hello Westfield families!
We appreciate your patience and understanding as we navigate a unique and dynamic situation regarding the outbreak of novel coronavirus. We are continuing to monitor the situation daily via the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Georgia Department of Public Health, and Houston County Health Department/North Central Health District, and we are continuing to implement our prevention measures which include disinfecting of classrooms and buildings.

Given the overwhelming amount of news and information about COVID-19, it is impossible to predict if or how our school may possibly be affected and certainly very difficult to determine the best course of action that prioritizes the safety of our students, families, and school community and also delivers our mission of providing a quality college prep education. After much research and discussion, we made the decision to postpone the upcoming Middle School field trips due to the current COVID-19 outbreak. We will continue to monitor school activities and events scheduled this spring.  Should the need arise to postpone or cancel any activities or events or to implement any school dismissals or closure, we will distribute information accordingly.

We ask that all students who have a fever, symptoms of a respiratory infections, or have been exposed to a person with the flu, coronavirus, or any other communicable disease or virus to stay home.  The CDC recommends that persons seek medical care and stay home for at least 24 hours after fever is gone without the use of a fever-reducing medicine.

The CDC recommends that the best way to prevent infection is through everyday practices -- cleanliness and hand washing. We are posting hand washing reminder posters in all restrooms on campus and encouraging everyone on our campus to practice the following everyday actions listed below. Our Upper School multimedia journalism class created a PSA to encourage Upper School students and faculty to wash hands and help stop the spread of illness and infection. Please talk to your child about the importance of proper hand washing and illness prevention.

  • Wash hands often with soap and water (use alcohol-based hand sanitizer of at least 60% alcohol if soap/water not available)
  • Cover nose and mouth with a clean tissue when coughing and/or sneezing.  Throw the tissue in the trash after using.
  • Avoid touching eyes, nose, mouth, and face.
  • Avoid close contact with sick people.

We are grateful for the privilege of providing an education, including such experiences as these field trips, for your child, and it is a privilege that we take very seriously. We appreciate your understanding as this is a very unprecedented and unpredictable situation. Please know that we will continue to do all that we can to keep our students, faculty, and staff healthy.

Today’s throwback is a salute to Westfield’s Spring Auction. Although we have held many fundraisers over the years, the auction is a relatively new tradition. Westfield's first auction was held in 2005 in honor of the school's 35 th anniversary. Dawn Jerles, Le Ann Tuggle, and Becky Mann coordinated the event. Proceeds from the first auction providing funding for the iron gate and brick entrances at the front of our campus. The event was so successful that Westfield continued to hold auctions every few years to raise funds for major projects such as the cafeteria renovation, wireless infrastructure, and Hornets’ Nest Pavilion. In 2017, the auction was renamed Green, Gold, and Sold! to solidify the event and provide continuity. We hope you will plan to join us next Saturday, March 21 st , for Green, Gold, & Sold! 50 th Anniversary Gala and Auction. This year’s event will be bigger and better than ever as we celebrate Westfield’s 50 years of excellence and raise funds for the Gymnatorium renovation.
