November 10, 2022

Don't forget..tomorrow (Friday, November 11th) is a student holiday in observance of Veterans' Day. Our Upper School is collecting cans of cranberry sauce for Perry Volunteer Outreach to provide Christmas meals for those in need in our community. Donation boxes are in our Upper School and Arts & Sciences building. Westfield will be participating in KidsGive again this year, helping to make Christmas merrier for 64 children in our community. KidsGive gift tags will be available on Christmas trees in each building on campus starting next week, and gifts will be due by November 30th - watch for more details. These are wonderful opportunities not only to serve our community but also teachable moments to help our students develop servant hearts. We are thankful to be a part of serving our community!

First Grade traveled to the Dauset Trails Nature Center for a class field trip. It was a gorgeous fall day to see the animals and spend the day in nature! #learningoutsidetheclassroom #exploringnature #discovering #fieldtrip #westfieldfirstgrade #educationofmindandheart
Second graders presented their “Book in a Bag” book reports. We love their creativity! This reports are an excellent way for students not only to put their creative, artistic, and writing skills to task, but also an opportunity for students to learn presentation skills, build self-confidence, and have fun reading! #Booksinabag #reading #westfieldsecondgrade #educationofmindandheart
Our fourth grade classes presented their Patriots Day program in culmination of their study of the American Revolution and Colonial period. They learned that freedom is not free, requiring many sacrifices throughout history so that we may enjoy the freedom we have today. #WhyAmericaisFree #fourthgradesocialstudies #patriotsday #westfieldfourthgrade #educationofmindandheart
Upper School students in Mrs. Melissa Smith's Honors Chemistry class have been learning about the atomic spectrum of elements. Today, they conducted flame tests to determine frequencies of electromagnetic radiation emitted or absorbed during transitions of electrons between energy levels within an atom. The observed color or spectrum of the flame is the set of wavelengths emitted by that specific element. #handsonlearning #chemistry #educationofmindandheart
Our Drama Club gave an outstanding performance of "The Big Bad Musical," directed by Mrs. Elizabeth Alexander. Thank you to our cast for a great job on stage, Cole Abney for sound, Brayden Cole for lights, and to Mrs. Alexander, Mrs. Christy Mooring, Mrs. Lauren Mann, Ms. Sheridan Nadeau, Mrs. Karen Ray, Mr. Chip Champion, and Mr. Ricky Salefsky for making the show a great success - and so much fun! #westfieldonstage
Upper School students in Mrs. Lauren Mann’s class visited a Mercer Singers rehearsal. The rehearsal was especially unique as the ensemble is preparing to debut a new choral composition later this week. The composer, Dr. Schmitz, was also in attendance, working with the group as they prepare for his piece’s world premier. #learningoutsidetheclassroom #westfieldchorus
Upper School students collected 137 Blessing Bags for the Jay's HOPE Foundation. These bags, filled with Thanksgiving meal items and grocery store gift cards, will be given to families who have a child fighting cancer. Thank you to our Upper School students and families for donating Blessing Bags! #servingourcommunity
Trevor McCullough, youth pastor of Cross Point Perry and Flint River FCA character coach for our varsity football team, spoke to our Middle and Upper School students at this week's assembly. He reminded students that their true identity is in Christ, their creator, and not in the world. We are grateful to pastors throughout our community who share the Gospel and love of Christ with our students. #WednesdayWisdom #educationofmindandheart
