Hello Westfield families!
Happy New Year! We are excited to have our students back on campus for 2020, and we hope that you and your family had a wonderful holiday! The new semester is in full swing. Students are settling back into the classroom, while our winter sports teams are in action. We are pleased to welcome our new cafeteria manager, Chef Christina Coffey with FLIK dining services, joining us from Wesleyan College. I n addition, Mrs. Janette Anderson is teaching Upper School AP English language/ literature classes during Mrs. Pam Pierce's absence. Please continue to keep Mrs. Pierce in your prayers for her full and speedy recovery. It is a privilege to continue Westfield's mission into the next decade, and we look forward to an exciting and successful 2020. #educationofmindandheart

Today’s post is a salute to Westfield basketball which officially began our school's athletic program in November of 1970. Paul Hartman coached the varsity boys, and Earl Marshall coached the varsity girls. Since our current school campus had not yet been built, the home games were played at the Beechwood gym in Marshallville and practices were held at the Armory. The boys finished the inaugural season with an 8-12 record, while the girls finished with an impressive 19-6 record! The basketball program continued to grow and excel, thanks in large part to the completion of a new gymnasium in December of 1971 that gave the Hornets a true home court advantage. During the 1970s, Westfield hosted the SEAIS (association before GISA) class A and AA state basketball tournaments for many years. Over the years, both our Lady Hornets and Hornets have had many victories and successful seasons; in fact, the varsity girls teams have earned Region Championships in 1975, 1978, 1980, 1982, 1984, 1991, 2002, and 2010, along with several trips to the state Final Four. The varsity boys' teams clinched a State Championship in 1975 (Westfield's first and only basketball state title), under the leadership of Coach Lee Martin, a Region Championship in 2012, and several Final Four appearances. Our 2019-2020 season is underway, and we hope you will join us in the Hornets’ Nest for an upcoming game. Click here for a schedule of remaining games. #hornetbasketball #50yearsofwestfield #throwbackthursday
Grades are being finalized, and we anticipate that report cards will go out electronically via email on Friday, January 10. Also, drop/add ends for Upper School students on Monday, January 13.
