Today's throwback is a salute to Westfield Tennis which began in 1971 as part of the school's inaugural athletic program. Mrs. Pheraby Smith, better known as "Coach Pheraby," coached the team that first season to an overall record of 4-3. Team members included Felix Smith, Wayne Boler, Allen Stubbs, Tim Greer, Mark Etheridge, Brad Bledsoe, Becky Horton, Lisa Ogletree, India Smith, Sandy Hudson, and Becky Hooten. The early teams had respectable seasons but really picked up steam in the late '70s when they claimed their first region championships. The domination would continue for many years to come, as both teams have quite the impressive record. Girls' Region Championships include '78, '79, '80, '81, '87, '88, '92, '93, '10, '11, and 2013, when the team would go on to claim the state title that year as well! In '02 and '03, sisters Audrey and Cynthia James claimed the state doubles' titles, and in 2013 Valerie McLure and Stephanie Campbell claimed the state doubles title. Boys' Region Championships include '79, '80, '81, '87, '88, '15, '16 (individual), and '18 (individual). Our 2020 team is led by Coach Wendy Bryan. We are looking forward to next spring and watching our tennis teams take the court. #throwbackthursday #50yearsofwestfield #westfieldtennis
Are you looking for any new recipes to try during this time of quarantine? How about “A Taste of Westfield”? This collection of recipes from Westfield faculty, staff, parents, alumni, and friends was published in 1990 by the Westfield Parent Teacher Association, known today as the Westfield Family Organization (WFO), and printed by the Taylor County Printing Company in Reynolds, Georgia. We will share a few recipes each day and hope you enjoy them! And the recipe for a Westfield teacher...we couldn’t agree more! #hornetsathome #50yearsofwestfield #atasteofwestfield
First graders are finding 3-D shapes in their homes. Aren’t they doing a great job being so creative! #westfielddistancelearning #hornetsathome
We love to share work from our students...especially ones like this that touch our heart. As part of distance learning, Spanish III students in Mrs. Tina Bowker's class were assigned to describe a mural that he/she would paint/draw if they had the opportunity - what the mural would contain and where it would be drawn/displayed. See the picture below from one of her students. Here's the English translation: If I drew a mural, I would paint my school, Westfield. The best place out of all places. I love my friends and my teachers. To the left of the school, I would draw my favorite days at Westfield. For example, I would draw Grandparent's Day, chorus competitions and many more activities. To the right of the school, I would paint all my friends and teachers because they are my family (always). Finally, I would paint my diploma and graduation cap because it is my last year of high school. Westfield will always be in my heart. #educationofmindandheart #hornetsathome #wearewestfield
Check this out! Westfield senior Jordan Camp was one of the students from across the country interviewed by CNN for this article about high school seniors missing their end of year senior activities . #westfieldclassof2020
